I usually go to lakes and rivers with bass in them and toss some lures around, seems to do the trick but maybe I should be quiet about it, don't want everybody to know my secrets. In all seriousness one cool thing we have where I live is a website where you can look up information on any lake (there are a shit ton of lakes). So it's easy to find out about some lakes that barely anybody fishes and what kind of fish are in the lake.Teach me your ways

I’ve been having a hell of a time keeping panfish on lately, can’t seem to figure it out.
When I’m on smaller lakes and ponds, just using a slip bobber, some split shots, and a reg shank hook or a octopus style, wax worms or red earthworms for bait. I’ve gone down from a size 2 to a 4 to a 6, thinking my hooks were too big but all these guys just seem to be nibbling at the bait, taking it and then spitting it out. Over the last couple of trips I can’t even count how many solid bites I’ve had where they just run off. Bluegills, small perch, other panfish, doesn’t matter. Shit last year they were setting the hooks themselves, now Idk what the hell is going on.
What type of panfish are you catching? I've always liked the looks of the Pumpkinseed

Not sure if I already posted in here. Do a lot of night fishing for catfish. Occasionally crappie. Daytime, whatevers biting. I think I'm up to 5 rods now, my daughter has 3.
Caught this big bastard a few weeks ago with my new zebco 888. So far my biggest![]()

Live shad on a 5 hook with a 3 ounce weight, 75lb braided line. Zebco 888 on a bass pro whupping stickWhat kind of bait/rigging?
Wasn't even the biggest one caught that night. My buddy caught 6 that were all 15 to 25 lbsFuck, I need to learn how to fish. I can only imagine how much my Tinder would be blowing up if I had a fish pix like that.
How do you scout your spots outside of that website? What kind of rod/reel setup for what body of water?

I use fishbrain to see if any of the ponds or streams I drive by are worth checking out later. Have had mixed luckFishbrain or fishing spots apps are what I use
I always take several different rods with me, a lot of the time I don't really know what I'm going to be dealing with structure wise the first time I try a lake. If the lake is full of thick weeds a heavier rod and reel combo spooled with braid would be the best choice. How do you scout your spots outside of that website? Hit my local creek again yesterday. Caught my first gar in a long time on a bbz one rat. He crushed it as soon as it hit the water. He thought he was going to eat a warm, juicy mouse. hooked and lost a few smallies on a ned rigged minnow and managed to land one before I switched to top water. Berkley choppo in bone which I painted the head and tail red since they don’t offer that option.
Anyway, caught six smallmouth bass with the biggest being 2.1 lbs, 16 inches. Missed a ton of strikes. The fish are finally acting normal in my opinion. View attachment 776478
It's on the smaller side but it appears to be a longnose gar, they don't get anywhere near as big as the alligator gar you're likely thinking ofIsn't that really small for a gar?
