Lets talk fishing

My new set up. Abu Garcia 7’ medium action vengeance rod $40 with an Abu Garcia Orra S 2000 reel $60 and 8lb fluorocarbon line. The medium action feels like a heavy action and is very stiff. Going to use this for bass.
Good setup for sure. I prefer the baitcasters for most of my blackbass fishing mach2 lews rod and reel 7 foot as well.

E2898BD4-64B9-4422-A3DF-57CE8D16D089.jpeg Finally got rid of that skunk that has been following me. Hit a private lake that was still partially ice over. Crystal clear water. Could see some big bass in there. But casting near them spooked them. I used a strike king 4inch rage menace in falcon lake craw(.basically watermelon and red) and I cut down the center to give the claws more action. Had about eight good hits, landed 3, and lost three at the bank. I was so cool being able to see the fish looking at your bait deciding if they wanted to strike.

my biggest was maybe 2lb. The others at 1.5 or so. E2898BD4-64B9-4422-A3DF-57CE8D16D089.jpeg58672D4A-B063-4A09-9D75-659ABC965916.jpeg

Had me crackin up. Sent to the wife and she wasnt amused.

58F407B6-DF7C-4315-AD13-7F011E56269C.jpeg Two new toys bought today. My kayak and a new rod and reel. I know I just got a rod and reel a few weeks ago and I may have a slight problem with buying fishing shit. Rod is a lews xfinity medium action with fast tip(sounds naughty) and the reel is a lews xfinity speed spin reel. This is my new smallmouth plastics set up.

My kayak is a sun dolphin Kingsport 12. This was my first choice because I can stand and fish and the seat is incredible. The price was $700 and was out of my price range, but a sale dropped it to $550. My second choice was an ascend 10t that was $460 but you can’t stand and fish on that one-too shaky they say.

Also, the paddle. A backwater assassin brand that looks like a damn medieval weapon. 2DA0147B-35F2-4E8F-98A0-9A02A7F8AC97.jpg

I went out Thursday with my new kayak. Damn is it heavy to move. I thought 85 pounds wouldn’t be that heavy, but it is so awkward. I hit up the lake where I was attacked last fall, and later ridiculed on here for making a thread about it. no attacks this time.

As I got out of the car, the wind blew the door shut on two of my poles. Sadly, the Abu Garcia vengeance is gone as is my piscifun serpent pole. Mi already ordered new ones.

I got the kayak on the water and actually did great and it felt like I had been doing it for years. I had only been kayaking a few times, but that was 20 years ago in Nicaragua.

I caught three fish on the day, which I will post in a few, and missed two. The first and third bass were around two pounds, maybe a bit under. The second fish was the best by far. Bigger than the other two combined and then some. I thought I had hooked a branch and was retrieving. I had to keep pumping the rod and then reel before I realized it was actually a fish. Then she started fighting. The batteries in my scale were dead, but I would guess she was between 3.5 and 4 lbs. she was the best large mouth I have caught in over ten years. Not a personal best, but that is what I am considering the bench mark to beat since I started fishing again.

I can’t post the release video of my biggest fish, and selfie pics don’t show how big she was, but she was a damn good fish for this area.

more pics of the kayak. It was in our dining room and the kids and I used a toy mouse and fished for our cats. They loved it.

and a pic of the poles I had ready for the yak’s maiden voyage. Two of those poles were the ones that were broken. Yeah, it sucked, but it was worth it to have a successful first kayak trip. I will post pics of the new poles when I get them. Also will start posting tackle pics.

Nice kayak man.
In no mans land here now. Ice too thin, but can’t fish from boat. Wait for ice to go out to go crappie fishing.

Mmm, fishing.

My grandfather taught me how to fish off the back of a small oar boat.

Immediately saw the appeal. Quiet, waiting, peaceful. Just the sound of water lapping against the boat. Click click click, something's interested in the bait...

First thing that came up on my line was a baby shark, wiggling madly. Not even a heavy gauge. I screamed at my grandpa "Grab the net, grab the net!" and he said "I'm not bringing that into my boat."

thanks. Your ice will thaw soon enough. Our bass are now starting to hit.
