Lol. No I meant size of kietich. I use the 5.8 on a 3/4oz jig head.

I am in northern California. Been going to lake berryessa but this year will be looking at lake Hennesy and lake chabot

I’ve been a high level tourney angler for over 20 years.

When you weigh bass non stop all the time , you know what weights they look like.


That’s a nice low 3lb class fish nothing wrong with it. Good fish. Just no way it’s 5, one of the key give sways is the mouth size and jaw thickness Too.
 
Oh gotcha lol. The swimbait was a 4.8 i believe, in the ayu color. I hope to one day bass fish in California, so many great bodies of water there as im sure you know. Good luck in 2020!

What would you say this one is? Just curious as I didn't have a scale on me.

I got tons of hits on that frog, lost the only fishes I hooked, but I did not get them until mid September. I once used a frog lure in North Carolina on a scum covered lake. In four consecutive casts I caught a bullfrog, a bass, then a crane swooped down on it and finally a gator nabbed it. Did not get it back.

In general, I prefer the choppos. But I like to cast the frogs in the weeds. I had better luck with largemouth than smallies. Had a real big one on but lost it. When it hit, it looked in the 5 lb range, but tough to judge. The lake I was fishing has a good number of bass in the 5-7 lb range, some say up to 9. I will believe that when I catch one.

I am not doubting you, I just said the whole fish Is not in the pic. I said a solid three on that one. I just started weighing fish since August. Before that, I weighed only a few fish. One was a 9 lb trout and the other was an 8’6 peacock bass.

As for proud I was part of some awesomeness. I was striper fishing on a small pier over here about 5 minutes away from my home. There was a couple of older guys mid 70s or so there that fished daily with me at this pier.
I caught a 12 inch split tail and gave it to one of the other guys to rig up and toss back out. He walks away to do some lure fishing by this pump near the pier. All of a sudden his clicker starts going off and his spool begins running. The other older guy grabs the rod and brings in this 48 inch striper.

No one but me was strong enough to pick the fish up to get it out of the water. So I jump down into the bank and grab it by the bottom lip with both my hands and do a upright row to get it onto the dock.

I shit you not when I say easily 20 more hands could have fit in this fishes mouth when fully open.

48 inches. 42 lbs.

Biggest striper I have personally seen. Including at aquariums in the area.

Not my catch but definitely a sick experience.

I almost exclusively bass fish at this point (despite living near the ocean)The biggest bass I've caught in the last calendar year was 8lbs, which is pretty good for the area I'm fishing in, and it was on foot/kayak. Anything over 5lbs here is a fatty for the most part (when it comes to bass).

As far as ocean fish, I caught one of these once it was a beast! It's an African Pompano. River Monsters had an episode on it, but they call it the Trevally internationally.

I saw that episode lol. Bass fishing is alot of work sometimes lmao. This year we are getting a jon boat. I live right next to the delta. Which is just awesome. That's where you get into double digit bass. Brackish waters offer such a diversity that it would be almost impossible to get a black bass every time you hooked up.

But my wish is going to Florida for peacock bass.

I know everyone want what they dont have lol

Yeah I hear you, that's true!

Peacock bass are actually less than an hour south of where I live. They don't journey up quite as north as where I am. So It's a small drive south.

check out my pic of the peacock. We caught 47 that day. Almost all over two pounds, quite a few over six pounds, two or three in the seven pound range and that monster over 8. My hand was bleeding by the end of the day because their jaw does not unhinge like large or smallmouth bass. They are not actually bass, they are cichlids.

the day before, I fished the Everglades with a banjo minnow. I caught three or four bass. The second one I caught attracted an alligator about six feet long. It came after the fish as I was trying to land it. The dock I was fishing from was three feet off the water and I couldn’t reach it. I tried to kick at the gator with my foot and almost fell in. Then one of the most badass things I have ever seen happened. A Seminole ran up and slapped the gator on the head and grabbed my bass. Dude was cool.

it did not seem aggressive towards me at all. I know they are angry because they have all them teeth and no toothbrush, but it just wanted the fish. I watched a video on YouTube with a croc in Australia that chased a guy on shore and took his fish as he was running. That was scary shit

My new set up. Abu Garcia 7’ medium action vengeance rod $40 with an Abu Garcia Orra S 2000 reel $60 and 8lb fluorocarbon line. The medium action feels like a heavy action and is very stiff. Going to use this for bass.
