Lets talk fishing

Nice to see our own out there fucking killing it in what looks like Texas and San Diego? Nice Gar and BFT

Thank you brutha!

I live in SoCal and fish all over these lakes on my bass boat or by foot. Plus i will travel as well in the pursuit of good fishing.

My family is all from Texas, so when I went back to the motherland last year, I jumped on an Alligator Gar sesh as well.

We had finished that one off before the photo.
Only one I kept that day, but ya be gentle when doing catch and release.
With catfish I let all above 5lbs go usually so they can be the super breeders. Plus the younger ones taste better.

It took about 20 min to get to close enough to net that pike. Fun ass fight. All the drift wood near shore added to the challenge.
lol the difference between a 1lb channel cat and a 2lb channel cat is that I can't physically eat the 2lb catifsh , no matter what anyone does, without wanting to throw up. Then I see pics of people keeping 20-30lbers from freaking ponds, with 6-10lb bass and its just disgusting. I coudlnt convince a guy who caught what was the biggest probably ever basss to come out of don castro lake/pond in hayward. The bassses mouth was so big, two fists were not enough to adequately meaure it mouth. The guy was so happy and didnt even fucking know was a basss was , dude called it a fcuking carp and was like im gonna eat it. I feel ya, its people like that, that ruin it for everyone and you can't really convince them otherwise for a multitude of reasons.

Only trophy fish anyone should be keeping are salmon and planted trout at least in Cali imo.

Also in my area they did a population check on bass in a well known and fished resivor called coyote lake/resivor. They found that there were like double digit bass breeding in what could literally support thousands and thousands of chunks. Biggest issue is people keeping dinks, and big ass bass , which are all females. The idea of culling in fishing is even moreso taboo or unheard of then conservationism.

In cali we have it really bad, this asian guy who coudlnt speak english, and I assume had to be fishing illegally was keeping bream from as small as an inch, with an avg ov maybe 3 inches. Dude would take 5 gallon buckets of them, while literally fishing his bobber over our lines. His only english word he knew, was fish. That guy literally dissemated my local lake, Grant Ranch, where I caught my pb bass, and where wed get bream to use as live bait. Then theres another spot, lake elibzeth, that had holdover channel cats from years prior due to child fishing plants. This asian guy randomly came up to us, pulled the biggest fish, my buddies pb, out of our bucket, all without saying a single word. Then he held the fish above his head, and litrerally all he fucking said was : Fish. Just like the last fuck, and guess what, everytime we ever went back, dude was there in our spot, with a bucket filled with nothing but 2-5 inch channel catfish. After seeing both do that a few times both spots are literally ruined, theres no way that the lcoal ecosystems can fallback from idiots like that.

The same type of people that leave a fishing hole dirtier than they arrived, fucking subhumans if you ask me

you ever try the santa ana planted puddles?

tbh theres almost nothing besides tuna trolling on the west coast that requires that heavy line and big game and big shark fishing on the east coast

I caught my pb halibut at 30 inches on a zebco dock demon with the 4lb zebco mono that would break more often than not when cinching down your knot. Took 30 minutes to get it in and gaff it lol, this was shore fishing though. I think I got the 30 in dock demon too

But flouro is good for certain appclaitons, like running a leader to main line. I've used that for bass fioshing with like 12lb floro to 8 lb mono and floro is basically invisble in the water and it sinks. Sometimes when I'm fishing light tackle the mono doesn't work well with what I'm fishing so I have to carolina rig or run a fish finder rig to keep my bait/lure down where with floro you wont have that issue. Its also extremely abrasion resistant, like I had a hard time trying to cut through some like 4-6lb seagar floro because its some good shit and its floro. floro also has no give, same with braid, and mono allows you a lot of extra leeway fighting bigger fish because they can stretch the line, bend your rod, and fight your drag.

I've done the same thing trout fishing when I coudlnt afford to own more than two rods, I would literalyl run a 10 ft bigwater ugly stik, with 20 lb main line, run that to a swivel, and ran 4lb floro as my leader and caught limits all the time with that while everyone was looking at me like i'm a retard. Go figure, there were actually times the fish were in the middle of this pond size lake we fished and only I could acess them with a 4 oz weight and a rod big enough to catch moby dick.

Some fish dont care about floro as they dont sight fish, they use their senses like that lateral line and other things to detect prey.

Like the go to out here for catching sturgeon from shore , slot size is 20-30lb test. If you want to be able to fight something bigger than you gotta upsize, but I think the fight is the best part of fishing

Fuck man. Your "Moby Dick" trout story cracked me up. Almost makes me want to throw a line in at my local pond with my surfcaster! I'll fish 4lb sometimes. If shit is getting loose. But usually the 6lb flouro gets bit by trout in snow fed mountain streams.

I will use 80lb mono leader for flathead catfish though. Need it for sturgeon too. Just too many rocks, boulders, sunken trees and brush where I fish. From the bank. Sometimes you just gotta turn em. Have to or you'll lose em. I know.

Holy cow, you just stated how I feel about crazy fuckers fishing! I was taught to be respectful to the point of not even asking what others are using to catch fish because "that might be how they get their meal" from my father. Granted I do ask nowadays.

I have a common spot on the Yellowstone I go for channel cats out here. On the weekdays its not busy. I would go out after my stretch of night shifts with a cup of coffee and breakfast. Only to find an old campfire with garbage all over. You can drive right up to where you fish. Can't take your trash with you.
I hate people who are lazy. To the point where if you are caught being lazy or taking more than you need, you loose you licence to fish forever.

Why didn't you call the Game and Fish to report him?

There's no signal at Grant Ranch, off of Mt Hamilton, which is in the east foot hills of the southern san francisco bay area. I did think about fucking dude up and taking everything fishing relateded in his possesion. I didn't but after trying for like 3-5 years there for bream/perch, I sure wish I did now. I also didn't think one person could ruin an entire lake, or extremely large pond either.

The catfish guy was in fremont at a park, and in that area/city/county they dont have DFG, they utilize officers to check licesnes and hand out tickets. Lets just say they don't really have the conservation of critters in mind to say the least.

All it takes is one asshole to fuck everything up. There was a small private pond near me that had bluegill and pumpkinseeds. Some asshole threw a couple of northerns in it, 2 years later the pond was overrun with northerns and the owner closed down the pond to the public.

I usually stay home for Memorial Weekend to avoid all the people out, but i did manage to get a few hours in on Friday Morning before I retreat home for the weekend. I hope you guys catch some this weekend tho!

Cheers!

Why would he just have random live fish?

Geesh. That sucks.

Read an article about some poor bastards getting fined $4200, mostly for overbagging carp from the Connecticut River. Heh, invasive carp. Yeah, not having licenses didn't help. Don't know how it is there, but in my state, you're fined the cost of the license plus $50. They also got gigged for exceeding rod limits. Interesting.

Lots of people stock private ponds.

That's why I didn't understand the guy I replied too. In my state, and just about every other state, the Game & Fish are militant.

Yeah, they have a lot of power. Thankfully, in my area, you have to really piss them off to draw their ire.

Happy Memorial Day!

This is how you start a holiday!

i can't talk fishing because I was trained in fishing 32 years ago to fish with live worms. I had to sell fishing lures when I was a Store Manager at Sports Authority and the trick is, if you have no clue what you are selling, let the buyer sell it to themself.....

Memorial Day action. Still can't find that 40lber. Have a few more months yet to break the record this year. My record, State is 45lb on one side of the river and 52lb on the other side. Hopefully get to try again next week. This Flatty is pretty cool cause you don't typically find them this dark color. And if people are wondering, had to bring it in alive for weighing at the tournament then it goes into a massive tank and is released back into the lake/river at the end of the day. Catch and release.

I'm surprised they did a catch and release, they're considered an invasive species.
Those weren't even supposed to be in Idaho. Someone screwed up in the 70's and instead of stocking blue catfish, non-native as well, they stocked flatheads.

It's the Tournament rules to bring them in live. But them Flattys aren't eating anything but other non native species. Plus their range is limited by upstream dams and they won't go too far downstream to Salmon and Steelhead territory because it's too cold for the Flatheads. So they're good stuck in their impoundment. Can't hurt much of anything.
