Lets talk fishing

Whats up Sherbros!? Looks like Early Spring Bass Fishing is firing up here in SoCal. I havent been able to go out since Valentines Day, but this week I am back on schedule fishing 2 to 4 days a week . . .

How are you guys looking out there?

@90 50 Where you at?

Nice bro, life’s been crazy lately haven’t fished a single tournament this season yet.

getting the itch bad. Need to. Get some stuff in order at my house. Still so I can go get. My skeeter out of. Storage and do few things to it so I can get back on the water.

Depending on my rig specific set up: i use all 3.

Bass: We have really clear high pressured lakes here so i use as light of braid with a fluro leader as possible.

If im pitching tullies or thick grass, i use heavier braid/fluro

All my baitcasters are fluro

I have a few cheap poles with Mono for blue gill, trout, carp etc

Ocean: heavy mono,braid/fluro (metal leaders sometimes too)

Fluro Sidenote: im obsessed with the Seagar AbrasionX Fluro. That shit has outlasted everything because it doesnt get chewed to shit by branches/rocks like other brands.
Abraisx is what I use mostly for. Flouro in those. Bad conditions or invisx if it’s really clear.

flipping with braid in stained water.

I hit a Loch Ness Monster (i think) and it jacked my prop . . . While i wait for the new one, should this jenky ass repair do the trick in the mean time????

Best chance of this working for a while is to do the same to the other 2 blades, if you don't you'll have a pretty decent vibration I'd say. I'm a shipwright so I "should" have some idea haha

Lol I do appreciate that!

Despite the Funky weather we been getting, water temp is still good, and I been catching some nice Bass on the drop shot! Check it out!

April 1st Trout season began in my locale. I haven't gotten a chance to get out yet, but I'm fixing to dust off the rods and go down to the water to check up on the boat.

All last year I fished bass, and half assed the tournament. Need to do better this year.

For bass, I feel like a lot of people use too big of a swim bait. It is true that big lures catch big fish, but most of the biggest bass I've caught have been on little grubs designed for pan fish to be honest. This is particularly true with smallmouth bass in moving water.

Top swim baits/lures for me all time for smallmouth bass in snag free water

1" or smaller transparent florescent green grub
1.5" bass lure (booyah)
1/4 ounce panther Martin spinner (black and yellow with gold blade)

Top swimbaits/lures for largemouth bass in snag free water

4" senco worm (watermelon green and wacky rigged)

Double tailed 2" grub (pumpkin)

1" rubber minow (baby bass markings)

For me the season depends greatly on what size swim bait I use. I like the large swim bait for spring bed fishing in dirty waters. Can't see the beds to flip too? Toss a large swim bait or a square bill and run it along the bottom. Eventually you will get a reaction strike.

Funny I went fishing for the first time this year this morning on the Colorado River. I didn't catch anything though.

I use braided on my baitcaster and I like it quite a bit. I have mono on my open reels.

Yeah, you got some monsters in that part of the country too.
A good size bass where I'm in the North-west at is a few pounds.

Ye we have ponds where there are tons of double digit bass never mind the lakes around me.

Great bass fishing out here for sure.

I live by the Thames and Wey and I’m definitely interested in getting into fishing. By which I mean I want to slump down by the river, asleep, with the radio playing cricket next to me. The blokes doing that always look extremely happy.

Rather late reply but all the fisherman still sit down by the hardstanding by the rowing club opposite where the River Wey goes into The Thames ?

Or go pike fishing over by the weir where a canoeist contracted Weils disease years and years ago and died...

Opposite the Weybridge Mariners Club....

Bass fishing here isn't open until the end of June. So all the bed fishing talk makes me sad.

When you tie Braid and Fluro you have to be very precise with how the wraps line up and as you sinch it down tight, add some moisture to the not. Roll and smooth the knot as it gets tightet too. Then use gloves to hand tighten it as much as it can go (without gloves the fluro will cut you open)

I use a Reinforced Alberto knot and ive never lost a leader (5lb test Braid With 8lb test Seagar Abrasx fluro). . . .

It took me some serious autistic like obsession with tying it correctly to really understand what makes that knot hold tighter longer.

I can second the Alberto knot. If It’s done right, I’ve never seen one snap. Usually tying up 12lb fluoro with 30 lb braid.
