Lets Discuss The Elephant In The Room: Reparations

@kuroro
Should we get reparations from China for the spread of the coronavirus?

Japanese internment families got reparations.
<BC1>
Precedent?

Nope.
Their families got nothing.

In 1988, President Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act to compensate more than 100,000 people of Japanese descent who were incarcerated in internment camps during World War II. The legislation offered a formal apology and paid out $20,000 in compensation to each surviving victim.

Haven't we learned anything? The answer is give them NOTHING! Give them an inch they'll take a mile while calling you a racist POS. These people can't be pleased.
This. The more you give the more they and the liberals want. The democrats are just trying to buy their votes with ridiculous racist payouts.
No.
My white family never owned slaves.
My Mexican family was actually black when they came here. Yet I identity as white, so I have to pay? F that.
How about expecting black people to not fail, and to be responsible. Guess what if they are forced to, they will act and behave better, as they can't fall back on excuses and affirmative action

Good idea, fund it by 100% inheritance tax.
Why would you think a 100% inheritance tax be the source for a payout?
I don't think there should be any inheritance tax.

I'm curious about your thoughts on this.

hey, $20K ain't chicken feed, bro

How much were the 360,000 thousand dead Union soldiers worth?
Nothing. They were all white and hence are racist. We all know that being racist means nothing else you did matters. So their deaths, sacrifices and contributions means actually nothing. Nice try white people, but you can't win a game that has rules that don't make sense

There are black people whose descendants were never slaves. I've met a couple that say this.

I listen to a podcast of a black host that says he is a descendant of a black man who owned black slaves. As far as reparations, how do you deal with that?

Look at Japanese Americans and Japanese we interned one and totally destroyed the other. Now they are the top of the food chain and the other has the 3rd highest economy in the world. Amazing what hard work will do

hey, $20K ain't chicken feed, bro

Not at all. But so many of them sadly already passed by 88. Over 40 years on. Only surviving victims got reperations. Not family members not relatives . Surviving victims. The only precedent that gives is basically no reperations for the victims of slavery.

Also it's because the us government actively enforced the internment camps. No middle men no buyers sellers etc. They were solely responsible. For slavery you have the sellers the transporters the buyers etc etc.

The Japanese internment camp reperations are not precedent for that unfortunately

If you really want to help black people then reparations are not a serious proposal. First of all there are the issues of who pays, and who gets paid, and that is complicated enough. But then you have to ask how we will know it will confer a real and lasting benefit. A one time payment where someone is just handed a check is probably only going to be spent on frivolous things. A long term handout will not encourage serious long term improvement of your position in life.

In truth this is about enriching activists, politicians, and bureaucrats, not regular blacks. They may get some small benefit, but overall it's going to be more counter productive than a net positive.

I think the best plan, if we must give out something to someone, is heavier investment in education. And I don't mean colleges and universities. They get too much already and are harming a big segment of the students they "educate" and society at large.

No, I'm talking about robust job and after school programs with a mix of athletics, arts, and skilled labor training. Not everyone will benefit from a conventional college or university program and we have a severe shortage of skilled blue collar labor. Ditch the social justice horseshit and provide everyone of every race with a path to a solid career.with benefits.

Meaningful work will do more to legitimately help blacks (and everyone else) than what we are currently doing.
