If you really want to help black people then reparations are not a serious proposal. First of all there are the issues of who pays, and who gets paid, and that is complicated enough. But then you have to ask how we will know it will confer a real and lasting benefit. A one time payment where someone is just handed a check is probably only going to be spent on frivolous things. A long term handout will not encourage serious long term improvement of your position in life.
In truth this is about enriching activists, politicians, and bureaucrats, not regular blacks. They may get some small benefit, but overall it's going to be more counter productive than a net positive.
I think the best plan, if we must give out something to someone, is heavier investment in education. And I don't mean colleges and universities. They get too much already and are harming a big segment of the students they "educate" and society at large.
No, I'm talking about robust job and after school programs with a mix of athletics, arts, and skilled labor training. Not everyone will benefit from a conventional college or university program and we have a severe shortage of skilled blue collar labor. Ditch the social justice horseshit and provide everyone of every race with a path to a solid career.with benefits.
Meaningful work will do more to legitimately help blacks (and everyone else) than what we are currently doing.
