Leon Went Out Like A Sucka

I can name a few welterweights from the last 10 years that would have done the same to Edwards. He is a good striker but not a great enough all around

You can blame some of this situation on the UFC's poor matchmaking in WW for the last 5 or so years

Edwards was overrated in the eyes of nerdy white belt analysts. Today he's fairly rated finally, which means that he's nothing special. I rate him lower than Bisping, Pickett, Daley, Freeman, Hardy and few others for an English fighter.

I wouldnt even call it a great run.

He outclassed Kamaru and Colby in his two title defenses and didn’t lose for several years before that. That counts as a great run imo.

I always thought Leon was overrated and got pretty lucky with his title run. I mean he never would have even been champ without that round 5 high kick KO against Usman. THAT was lucky as F.

He's still only 33 and he could make a comeback. He should take 6 months off and work on his wrestling and then come back. He actually didn't do as bad as you're saying against Belal. He reversed some wrestling positions and was able to control Belal on the ground at times.

In what way was it "lucky"? Are you saying he didn't try to kick him in the head?

Leon went out as he came in, a guy that likes to stay back and pick his range. His last minute KO of Usman isn't the normal Leon. Besides the headkick KO, Leon has gone to decision since 2018. Last finish was some unknown guy named Peter Sobotta.

Colby fight was a bit meh. Thank god he won but...

He almost fucked that whole deal up.

What a weird, pointless thread. Pretty gay.

Leon went out with the likes of a majority of champs, hot potato the belt until a dominant champs installs themself..

It was basically a replay of the first Usman fight in my mind without the fight saving Hail Mary.

Leon is too content with being down rounds and getting controlled. He’s a smart fighter but his aversion to taking risks when down will make him look awful in defeat.

I don’t want to say he sucks because he doesn’t at all and I hate when a fighter loses and everybody says that but that performance was terrible. He showed zero push back and his body language said he was defeated way before the final bell. He quit in there.

WW has been plagued with boring and inactive champions for awhile. Hopefully Belal can at least be active.

daily reminder that there were people here saying leon is better than gsp when he won the title
people are so easily impressed
dude is a decent point fighter and that's all, a black martin kampmann at most

Was Leon really on a great run?

He KO'd Usman in the last round after getting dominated for most of their 2nd fight, beat an understandably hesitant Usman in the rematch, then beat a VERY undeserving Colby who refused to even engage. All the while he was mostly inactive and refused to promote himself and arrogantly acted like rightful contenders like Belal weren't in his league. One of the worst champs in modern UFC history, absolutely awful, good riddance!

Got bitch slapped by Nate too

But man, that title win has to be up there with Top 5 "feel good" moments in MMA history.

Leon is probably the worst champion with multiple defenses in ufc history. Very flukey run for the level of fighter he is
