Legalized marijuana

Just off the top of my head:

Kills pain without addictive and deadly opioids
Enhances sleep
Helps soothe anxiety, again without addictive and deadly RX
Enhances sex drive and enjoyment of sex

I'm probably missing around 100,000 other things here.

There are also studies being conducted based on the belief that THC creates a "wall" blocking the build up of proteins in the brain that cause alzheimers, dementia and CTE.

I've also read some studies that suggest eating it as opposed to smoking gives you the dark veggy effect and helps prevent cancer.

Now with all of the widespread legalization hopefully many more studies will be done and we can get some definitive answers.

evidence doesn’t support any of this other than some pain relief, but it’s not a recommended first line treatment for pain.

The dispensaries finally opened for legal recreational sales at 6:00 am this morning. I got there at 4:00 am. I didn't know what to expect line wise because I had read that people in Chicago were already lining up 2 days ago. But it wasn't bad yet. After about a half an hour someone came out and handed out numbers so we could wait in our cars. Thank God because it was fucking cold. I was #28. When I left the dispensary at about 6:45 am they were handing out #350.

I bought some bud and some edibles. They only had one strain of bud available. There was a lot of other stuff on the menu (155 choices of edibles) but I have no clue what a lot of it even is - like concentrates and something called RSO for example. What do you do with a concentrate?

In this thread I had been asking what to expect regarding the bud quality and I got conflicting info. I have no complaints whatsoever. It looks good, smells good, tastes good and works well. It is at least as good as what I used to get illegally, but it is more expensive.

I haven't tried the edibles yet. I've never had an edible before and I don't even really know what I bought.

One strain LOL, I’d be all like...

congrats on legalization brah, only upwards from here

I’m waiting for some of my friends or anybody I know to be legally set up with a dispensary or micro grow before I buy legal. The red tape to get in the industry is insane in Canada.
I prefer to buy direct from a grower when possible who I have met before and seen their operation. These dealers and shops are just middlemen jacking up the price.

I got a “guy” with a website and 20 different strains at all times but he always charges more cuz he has to make his cut. Since he’s just a seller or “broker”

find someone who can grow good and become friends with them and you will never need weed again.
If I didn’t live in a tiny apartment with no privacy I would be growing a few plants ASAP.

So how much was it and how much did you get?
I'm not real clear on what was going on with the price. The bud was listed on the menu as $78 an eighth. I even pointed to the menu and asked the salesperson if that was correct and she said yes. But on my receipt I was only charged $65 an eighth. It is my understanding that they are charging 30% more for recreational than medicinal. At least for awhile.

I bought a quarter ounce. I would have bought more but I had no idea if it was any good and I didn't want to spend any more than that blindly.

I also bought some edibles. I got a pack of some kind of Lemon Lime chews. The pack says 100 mg THC 10-pack. They were $25. That was another blind buy. I don't know a damn thing about edibles. My total bill was $189 after tax which is supposed to be around 23%.

The menu was just 3 zeroxed sheets stapled together and they were handing them out as you went in. I should have kept mine but I didn't even think about it.

First hand evidence suggests otherwise, but don't just take my word for it Do some research and draw your own conclusions.

Damn @ $65 an 8th but I'm not surprised. Good stuff? I used to live in West Central in the late 90's...., was this in Chambanna?

I've got the day off and nothing at all to do so I've been smoking since I got home. It's good stuff.

I live in Normal just on the edge of ISU's campus but I work in the Champaign area a lot. The dispensary that I went to is in East Peoria. There are two dispensaries selling recreational in Champaign but East Peoria is closer.

As I said earlier in the thread there is a dispensary that is 10 minutes from my house but they haven't applied to sell recreational yet. The city council passed everything that needed to be put in place for the sale of recreational marijuana within the city so I have no idea what the hold up is.

When I was waiting outside for my number to be called word was going around in the crowd that they had completely ran out of bud already. Someone must have misunderstood what one of the customers walking out had said and the rumor spread. So when I got in there I was just happy to see that they had any bud at all.

There was a reporter from the local paper in the crowd and even he reported in his newspaper article that they had run out of bud completely by 6:30 am but that wasn't true.

Cool man I've been to Peoria and Normal numerous times. I lived in Urbana and saw what you pointed out about Champaign having 2 dispensaries a few weeks back.
Danville is a lot closer for me now, and like what you said it's been passed by local legislatures but no dispensaries yet due to a limited number of licenses the state hands out. I have yet to research how often the state will sell more licenses.
Glad to hear it's good stuff, but at that price it'd damned well better be :)

I sometimes forget some states have barely passed this. In the mid 90s, here in CA you were able to get medical marijuana. We kinda take it for granted but I guess this is another reason why CA is the GOAT state.

My neurologist tells me that although the vast majority of health benefit claims for marijuana are sketchy, there does seem to be some evidence that THC has a beneficial effect for children with a very specific kind of epilepsy.

Nevertheless I get relief post- seizure, just from the relaxed sense of well being.

I live in Illinois and recreational marijuana is supposedly about to become legal on January 1st 2020.

I am completely clueless as to how this system works. I'm looking for some insight from Sherdoggers who live in states that have already legalized.

How is the potency and price compared to what you used to buy illegally? Any other pertinent info that you want to throw at me is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Here in wa state the prices are really good and really high thc potency. I wish I could still smoke

In Belgium (Europe) they have already some cannabis shops where they sell weed that has high CBD but very low THC. So you can smoke it and you will feel calm and it tastes a bit like real weed but you will not get high.
I don't know how it will be like that in you country but I suspect the same.
In Italy where I went on vacation it's the same thing.
In the Netherlands they sell real weed with serious THC that gets you high, but from now on they only sell it to Dutch people anymore I believe so you cannot buy it if you are foreign.

Bottomline, if it doesn't have much THC in it, there is not much point to it.
Not true. Cbd is great for pain

I just went back to the dispensary for the first time since it opened on the 1st. It's been open and selling recreational for about a month so I expected that things had died down and I would breeze in and out of there. Nope. There were 20 people in line at 11:00 am on a Monday. The line looked even longer as I was leaving. I am in the wrong business.

Flower for recreational users is sold out and I hear that it is the same situation throughout the state. They said that they aren't even expecting to be able to restock for a couple months at best. So I bought a THC vape cartridge instead. I've never vaped before and I just tried it for the first time. I'm sold.

It was legalized here in July 2023. The dispensary here has good eighths at $30 while I usually get the Vapes at $35 for 1 gram.

Cost 150 for a 7 month licence here. Kind of stupid. The convenience of it all is kind of worth it. Wish it was like in Washington State, and I just went in with a regular ID, but it is what it is.

They have nice all-in-one vapes at my local shop for 25 bucks a G. Live resin/rosin ones are more, but I still go for the regular types. I don't smoke it anymore, but a quarter of shake for 25 bucks are my teenage years pricing.

This is false. I've had a medical card for over a decade now and I still get taxed. It's a lesser tax than recreational, though.

Yep, it's pretty crazy. Great selection and quality but prices have gone up... unless you go places operating illegally.

You're false. I've had a medical card for 6 years and I never get taxed. You're just one big fat phoney.

$25 is a nice price. The lowest I usually get mine is $30-$32. I agree the 7 month license is ridiculous.
