Legalized marijuana

I have asthma is there some other way I can do pot? I never tried it before.

I live in Illinois and my brother used to get me shit from the med shop. I’ve tried about twenty different flowers , all honestly aren’t all that great. It’s all super mass processed shit that looks pretty good, generally smells weak and produces unfulfilling smoke. The concentrates are another story. All I’ve tried have been amazing.

however when I was in Colorado last winter the tecrestional heady buds at $125 a zip were fucking incredible and some of the best herb I’ve seen in a looooong time. Even when it becomes legal here in Illinois I’ll still probably buy from my dude till the herb reaches 8/10 status....

Edibles or a vaporizer.

If it’s your first time, be very careful with edibles. Take a very small, measured dose to start off and see how it feels. They have the potential to be much more powerful than regular smoking. They’ve caused bad trips for people who didn’t know what they were getting into. Not my preferred means of intake but it’s not bad. I find it is more of a body high than in your head. Hard to explain for me, I am not a frequent user.

I’d say try a vaporizer but I’m not sure how that would work with your asthma. I have a vapium light portable vaporizer that’s hand held. Not overly expensive and no need for oils or anything. I just put my own home grown in it and it turns it to a vapour with no smell and not much taste either. It is much easier on the lungs than smoking it

It's not really the strength on the edibles...... it's the 6 hours ur stoned. Smoking ur stoned maybe 1 to 2 hours and u can even turn it off to an extent by eating. Edibles ur stoned for a good 5 hours or more and eating only makes the edible stronger an last longer at least for me.

To start off edibles dont do more than say 20mg ...... start at 10mg n maybe another if ur up to it.

Personally I love edibles n prefer it like on a Sunday when watching football or a ufc card n I can just chill for 5 hours. If I'm out around people always just smoke.

I went to the dispensary for stocking stuffers this year, which was a nice thing in its own right, but the one near me (NETA Boston/Brookline) doesn’t have a great selection of edibles. They have chocolate bars, gummies and lozenges, I get the lozenges because they’re low dose and very easy to consume in moderation. They had a ton of distillates, tinctures, waxes and other stuff I don’t fully understand, and varieties of high potency flower that they walk you through like you’re at a fancy wine shop or something.

Cost is a little high, owing to taxes, and there’s not many open yet in my area so you have to wait in a 10-15 minute line, but it’s convenient and stress free, and the staff are genuinely helpful. I’m hoping when a few more open up I’ll be able to get cookies and brownies and other edibles that are more fun for parties.

Two days to legalization in Illinois. The wait is almost over.

I live in Illinois and recreational marijuana is supposedly about to become legal on January 1st 2020.

I am completely clueless as to how this system works. I'm looking for some insight from Sherdoggers who live in states that have already legalized.

How is the potency and price compared to what you used to buy illegally? Any other pertinent info that you want to throw at me is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Weed was decriminalized up here a few years ago and there's still no where for a person to buy it. The state has really missed the boat on that one because now we all just grow it out back. As if I'll ever buy it when I can grow 5 pounds in my backyard.

Personally, I don't really like the weed that comes from the medical shops. They put weird shit in it that makes it taste unnaturally sweet too often, it's usually hydro, which I also don't care for and honestly doesn't seem to have the effect I like. I want to have fun, not take a nap.

I've seen a lot of conflicting info in this thread regarding the marijuana available from the dispensaries.

Ultimately I'm just really stoked that I won't ever have to mess with drug dealers again.

Whats the law there? Can you grow it? Just do that, if you can.

Only people with medical cards can grow it legally. And I don't know a damn thing about how to grow marijuana or anything else for that matter. I planted some bushes in front of my house a few years ago and I was pretty shocked that I was even able to keep them alive.

I invest about 200 bucks in potting soil and plant food each summer and grow absurd amounts of weed without even trying. Do it once and you'll never feel right about buying it again.
That said, you don't need to be a medical patent to grow up here, so there's no risk for me.

It's not that great.

Sure, no tax payer dollars will be used to combat it now, however....

You will pay more than your street vendor charges and you will be taxed on it. Because of this , street dealers are starting to Jack their prices up a bit.

Also, laws will become enforced prohibiting you from smoking it in most places or you will be fined. It's actually worse off now in our city. Before the cops didn't really care if you lit up small amounts, now they start writing up tickets. Also our arena will soon put a ban to smoking at concerts.

It seems legalization fucked things up more than it made things better.

May I know the health benefits of smoking pots?

Just off the top of my head:

Kills pain without addictive and deadly opioids
Enhances sleep
Helps soothe anxiety, again without addictive and deadly RX
Enhances sex drive and enjoyment of sex

I'm probably missing around 100,000 other things here.

There are also studies being conducted based on the belief that THC creates a "wall" blocking the build up of proteins in the brain that cause alzheimers, dementia and CTE.

I've also read some studies that suggest eating it as opposed to smoking gives you the dark veggy effect and helps prevent cancer.

Now with all of the widespread legalization hopefully many more studies will be done and we can get some definitive answers.

The dispensaries finally opened for legal recreational sales at 6:00 am this morning. I got there at 4:00 am. I didn't know what to expect line wise because I had read that people in Chicago were already lining up 2 days ago. But it wasn't bad yet. After about a half an hour someone came out and handed out numbers so we could wait in our cars. Thank God because it was fucking cold. I was #28. When I left the dispensary at about 6:45 am they were handing out #350.

I bought some bud and some edibles. They only had one strain of bud available. There was a lot of other stuff on the menu (155 choices of edibles) but I have no clue what a lot of it even is - like concentrates and something called RSO for example. What do you do with a concentrate?

In this thread I had been asking what to expect regarding the bud quality and I got conflicting info. I have no complaints whatsoever. It looks good, smells good, tastes good and works well. It is at least as good as what I used to get illegally, but it is more expensive.

I haven't tried the edibles yet. I've never had an edible before and I don't even really know what I bought.

Id love for florida to finally get in on this

Unfortunately my job will still drug test for it since its federally illegal

Don't listen to this guy. It is absolutely the strength of edibles that matters. If you smoke too much you can feel it immediately and stop smoking. You'll be slightly too high for an hour or less, and it's not even that unpleasant. But if you overdo it on edibles you'll go from 0 to 100 very quickly and there's no going back.

An absolute beginner shouldn't do 20 mg. I wouldn't recommend to start off with anything more than 5 mg. And give it 2 hours to take full effect.

i'm just hoping another state closer to me legalizes recreational.
i have little hope for NYS. this is, after all, the last state that legalized MMA. probably for the best though, greedy mf'ers would likely drop 40% tax rate on it, and then wonder why sales don't meet projections.

So how much was it and how much did you get?
