I pointed out that Trump said Puerto Ricans wanted others to do everything for them (re: hurricane recovery) and, once he was actually in PR to "survey the damage" he talked about how much worse Katrina was. very presidential.

So I have two really good friends who originally lived in Vegas. Gave the one I'm closest with the head's up the morning it happened. He's part of a Whatsapp group of guys I text pretty much daily. He was a member of the Sherdog Clash of Clans clan (and trolled the shit out of me as leader all the time). I once posted a video of his blindfolded knife skills on the Dog. Of course he jumped on his phone, and was relieved to inform us that none of his immediate family were harmed.

Today, we got an update. Two of his cousins were shot. One was shot in the leg. The other is one of the 59.

I didn't know anyone else in the clan was from Vegas. I grew up in Vegas. I messaged all my friends and family immediately and everything was fine at first. Yesterday, my brother found out his friend died. Saw it on HuffPo. We also learned of a few family friends who were there, one was wounded. I'm going to check the official list in a few days when the dust clears and I kind of expect to see some childhood friends on the list.

I don't really know how to describe the feeling or make sense of any of this. Reading through this thread makes me actually, physically sick.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives now believes Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock likely had help planning and executing the deadliest mass shooting in US history from none other than the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino security guard who was shot in the leg that night, a senior ATF official told GotNews.
Jesus Campos has been praised for his apparent heroics on October 1st, as he supposedly rushed to Paddock’s suite, was shot in the upper thigh through the door, and continued to help get people to safety despite his wounds. However, a new report indicates the ATF now believes he was likely an accomplice of Paddock’s, and may have even been involved in the initial shooting as a second gunman from the other broken window in Paddock’s 32nd-floor room.

According to an ATF official, these suspicions are corroborated by the extreme amount of gunpowder residue found on Campos’ hands. “They believe he killed Paddock, shot holes through the door and his own arm to produce physical evidence for his cover story, then went and lay next to the elevator,” a senior ATF official doing ballistic work for the shooting told GotNews.

Authorities have similarly been piecing together information that shines light on the sophistication of the attack. “Paddock also had an electronic signal jamming device active and that is why the cameras were all out on the floor,” the ATF official explained.

There is nothing in this whole scenario that would require a second person. Doesn't mean it's not possible but it's easy for someone to set up solo.

That could make sense but it would undercut the meticulous planning notion. Plus, with bumpfiring he's not doing that much aiming to either need to or be able to accurately adjust his sights.

Just curious. I find a lot of dopey people on these boards live in a fantasy world where people will treat them the way they want to be treated... or else. The reality of the world is that, for a number of reasons, people are going to treat you in ways you don't like and you better find a way to handle it in a way that doesn't derail the pursuit of your own goals, but everyone's first instinct to slap leather / talk tough will do just that. (Not you specifically.) It's something about people tha fascinates me.

That's why I've advocated for adults to act like adults . . . life isn't going to always be an easy ride. The quicker we learn how to deal with it they better off we'll be.
