oh stop. It was a poor choice of words. Wrestling is not strictly anaerobic. The fact remains, you got duped by Kurt Angle and his whack-a-doodle claims.

Duped? Angle described having an amazing workload. I have no reason to doubt that he, indeed, had an amazing workload, especially when top wrestlers are known for... amazing workloads.

Is he fudging the numbers a little bit? Who knows.

There's no doubt that Angle's volume of training was incredibly high. From an analytic standpoint, it should be pretty obvious that he is inflating his numbers. For instance, if Brock Lesnar said that he runs a 4 min mile, the bullshit flag would immediately be raised because it seems very very unlikely that it would be true. The same should occur with Angle. One of the guys above posted a video of Pete Rubish barely squeeking out 25 reps at 405 and he's an elite powerlifter that gets paid to do nothing but lift weights. We're supposed to believe someone that does not have the primary focus of building up their squat was able to crank out 3 more reps than the elite lifter that deadlifts 800 for reps?

Pete Rubish's primary focus is not volume training, but lifting maximal numbers, correct? While it sounds like the primary focus of Angle's weightlifting was volume training.

If Angle had claimed he squatted 750 lbs., I would be suspicious. But I have less frame of reference for lifting high reps. Maybe an elite, world-class athlete in a sport where muscle endurance is a huge factor, as you pointed out, could match a power lifter. Put it this way: it would not surprise me if Angle was better than a powerlifter at most athletic tasks outside of lifting a very heavy weight for a low number of repetitions.

But it would also not surprise me at all if Angle were fudging his weightlifting numbers.

dude, follow pete's training. most workouts he does a high rep set of squats or deads. The guy is legit. However, Angle is not. You think that because he focuses on high rep work he's automatically going to be able to lift 405 X 28? If that were the case, we'd see crossfitters cranking out amazing feats like that on the regular.

Automatically? No. Just like people who train hard in wrestling aren't "automatically" going to win gold medals.

Dude............I don't even know what your argument is anymore. What does anything you're saying have to do with Kurt Angle inflating his numbers?

I am done with this discussion. Congratulations on successfully turning this thread into an endurance sport.

Crossfitters aren't even stupid enough to do that many reps for squats.

Lets give Angle the benefit of the doubt here. A poster came on here and gave some numbers based on an article he read. No link, no nothing. When Kurt Angle says these things, then you can say he is full of shit. Until that point, we are going off of heresay only. Angle hasnt claimed anything.

First post of page two has an excerpt from Angle's book with these claims. True or not, I have no idea.

Maybe he has added some reps over the years, maybe not. Look at the 20 squat rep workout, he could be grinding those reps out. Nothing says he is doing rapid reps, after all he has stated he went until he couldn't do any more reps.

Also, Angle didn't state he did sprints for 8 hours. He did state his wrestling workouts were set up like an 8 hour workday though. Take that for whatever.

This is kind of how I see it. I have no idea if it's true or not, but it doesn't seem impossible. A guy like Pete Rubish may be able to hit 405x25 and nearly 700 for a single while a guy like Angle might max much lower but have a higher work capacity at lower weights. Everyone says those rep calculators are bullshit past 5 reps.. and we're talking 25+ reps here. Also, who knows if Angle is even hitting full depth? I've seen plenty of high level athletes quarter squat. I'm not saying it's true, false, or saying anything about Angle himself, but it doesn't seem impossible for his squat claims to be true.

There's an old SI article that stated while in college Lesnar performed the following lifts:
*Squat 695 lbs
*Bench-press 475 lbs
*Deadlift-720 lbs

I was pretty close in my guesstimation ! ;)

But only way for me to believe this would be for Angle's squat to be like half ones..

But I don't believe it because Kurt Angle has been know for years to be the Dolce type of exaggerating guy / liar.
He is way too much into publicity
