There's no doubt that Angle's volume of training was incredibly high. From an analytic standpoint, it should be pretty obvious that he is inflating his numbers. For instance, if Brock Lesnar said that he runs a 4 min mile, the bullshit flag would immediately be raised because it seems very very unlikely that it would be true. The same should occur with Angle. One of the guys above posted a video of Pete Rubish barely squeeking out 25 reps at 405 and he's an elite powerlifter that gets paid to do nothing but lift weights. We're supposed to believe someone that does not have the primary focus of building up their squat was able to crank out 3 more reps than the elite lifter that deadlifts 800 for reps?
Pete Rubish's primary focus is not volume training, but lifting maximal numbers, correct? While it sounds like the primary focus of Angle's weightlifting was volume training.
If Angle had claimed he squatted 850 lbs., I would be suspicious. But I have less frame of reference for lifting high reps. Maybe an elite, world-class athlete in a sport where muscle endurance is a huge factor, as you pointed out, could match a power lifter. Put it this way: I would not surprise me if Angle would be better than Rubish at almost any athletic task outside of lifting a heavy weight for a low number of repetitions.
But it would also not surprise me at all if Angle were fudging his weightlifting numbers.
dude, follow pete's training. most workouts he does a high rep set of squats or deads. The guy is legit. However, Angle is not. You think that because he focuses on high rep work he's automatically going to be able to lift 405 X 28? If that were the case, we'd see crossfitters cranking out amazing feats like that on the regular.
Automatically? No. Just like people who train hard in wrestling aren't "automatically" going to win gold medals.

Lets give Angle the benefit of the doubt here. A poster came on here and gave some numbers based on an article he read. No link, no nothing. When Kurt Angle says these things, then you can say he is full of shit. Until that point, we are going off of heresay only. Angle hasnt claimed anything.
Maybe he has added some reps over the years, maybe not. Look at the 20 squat rep workout, he could be grinding those reps out. Nothing says he is doing rapid reps, after all he has stated he went until he couldn't do any more reps.
There's an old SI article that stated while in college Lesnar performed the following lifts:
*Squat 695 lbs
*Bench-press 475 lbs
*Deadlift-720 lbs
