A 26-year-old Syrian surrendered late Saturday evening to the police in Solingen, Germany:

- It's me you're looking for.

Issa al H. (26) was wanted by the police after the stabbing in the German city on Friday evening, where three were killed and eight seriously injured.

Soaking wet from the rain and still with blood on his clothes, the Syrian approached the police shortly after 11 p.m. According to Bild's sources, he said: "It's me you're looking for..."

Issa al H. is said to have been hiding in a backyard since the knife attack.

The Syrian arrived in Germany in 2022 and applied for asylum. He received a residence permit.

The authorities had no information that he was an Islamist.

Earlier on Saturday evening, the police stormed an asylum reception in Solingen and arrested a 36-year-old. However, the man was "not the person we were looking for", says Minister of the Interior Herbert Reul to ARD this evening, adding:

- The person we were looking for all day is now in custody.
