Everybody counting out the champ before we've seen Khamzat in an actual fight with anyone in the hop 10.

While I have little doubt that Khamzat will be champion one day, the current champ is still improving at a very fast rate; so it's impossible to disregard him.

The guys that Khamzat fights seem to play into his strengths.
I imagine that Trevor Wittman will come up with a good game plan for the champ.

I'm seriously expecting Usman to avoid fighting Khamzat and retire without having to fight him.

Similar to how he said he wouldn't fight Khabib, or move up to fight Izzy, I suspect he will pull some kind of brotherhood card to save face.

Why would Usman avoid Khamzat?

This thread must just be recency bias, because you’re sleeping on Usman’s wrestling and boxing if this is serious.

Khamzat hasn’t been fighting the top tier guys of his division, we still haven’t fully learned his level in the sport just yet. Calm down boys.

I think Colby will win, then try and bait Doostin into a WW fight (especially if Doostin snatches the LW title) or Mas if he beats Leon. Then fight Usman for the third time, which he'll likely lose. Meanwhile someone will have derailed the Zat train at some point, unfortunately, so ducking Chimaev will get a bit easier.

No no lol....no no. I think there seems to be a misunderstanding here. I said Li is not a top grappler in the division. Khamzat certainly is a top grappler and I would say without a doubt top 5 from what I see so far, I would say top 3 along with Usman and Burns. What I am basically saying in relation to the opening post is that I can't be sold on Khamzat running through Colby, Usman and the best WWs based on him outrappling Li.
Its MMA so we've had red hot prospects go bust before but if you're not thoroughly impressed by what we've seen so far I just don't know what to tell you, the guy is clearly the future of the division if he can stay healthy and keep making weight.

Usman has never been taken down in the UFC and he faced quite a few strong grapplers.

Khamzat looks impressive but it would be nice to see him against someone that can challenge his strengths and pose some danger.

Usman physically is a force hopefully this fight happens in 2022.

Luque or Burns would be a nice fight for Khamzat.

Look at who made the thread.

Chances are he beats Colby while KHAMZAT has to get one more ranked win before a TS.

Usman should get one more defence in (after Colby) before retiring, so he goes down in history as having 6 title defences and a 15 fight UFC win streak and not have to lose it to KHAMZAT

LOL, lose it to Khamzat. More than likely he's blast his head off into the 10th row. Those takedowns wont come that easy vs someone who can actually wrestle and grapple, as opposed, to a tailor made match up. Gonna be time to stand and bang pal....no more easy fights.

Is the implication here that Usman would be scared to fight Khabib?
Please tell me it's not so. Absolutely LAUGHABLE if that's the implication.

I am impressed. I just don't put my stock in fighters until they prove themselves and are challenged. And let's be honest here, the guy's fought a couple easy fights, Merchant at MW and just fought Li, who's a good top 10 guy but not the elite of the division.

If were talking about Khamzat as a good top 10 WW and potential contender than I am very excited to see what he does and definitely see him as such. But if the discussion is about him destroying the best guys at WW and becoming champ based on what I've seen so far?? I don't buy it yet. It's the same thing as Islam at LW, I am not sold on either guy being a serious contender......until they, you know? Beat an actual contender or title level fighter.

Unlikely. Usman is friends with those two and shares the same manager as Khabib. He doesn't know Khamzat and Ali no longer manages him so there's no excuse for not fighting him.

Plus, Khamzat is getting some of that Dana White privilege now. After one more win, he can demand to fight whoever he wants. Usman will have no choice but to take the fight with Khamzat.

What if Chimaev ends up having a conor level gas tank? He expends so much energy in his grappling I feel if an opponent can make it out of those rounds it could look bad for him.

I'd like to see Usman/Luque and Khamzat/Burns and then hopefully nobody gets derailed and we can get Usman/Khamzat in like summer 2022. That would be a proper unstoppable force vs immovable object clash of the titans kinda fight.

Well, that would suck, wouldn't it?

Finally a guy that looks like he could match Usman's skill and athleticism. I sure hope we get to see them matched up in 2022.
Chimaev is way more explosive athletic and fast than Usman, he’s a freak of nature. Usman has bum knees

Usman is in such a tough position lol, he runs through everyone in the division but Loses badly to Khamzat and it will destroy his legacy... Marty should fight Edward after colby and then retire on top... make up an excuse like his knees gave up and need some kind of surgery

He's gonna have to fight this guy, that's if Khamzat makes it to a title shot. His legacy will be questioned for avoiding it. And for Usman, there's money in the fight too. He like those fights where his opponent brings attention.
