Media Khabib Nurmagomedov on Irish MMA: "Not even half" of Dagestan's level

Oddly enough Dagestan hasn’t made as many waves in professional grappling as I would have assumed given their sambo heritage and massive wrestling base.

Normally in MMA a Brazilian vs Russian almost always ends in the Russian victory, but in pro grappling it could be a lot closer.

When it comes to striking I'd think the Irish are light-years ahead of the dagis. Especially in boxing.
When it comes to grappling the dagis are WAY ahead.

So it evens out in the end.
This not boxing bruzar. This MMA. You have zero grappling skills.

He is 100% right but he also looks really fucking fat, somebody really enjoyed the new year lol

In case you didn't know, he was a successful fighter and the media wants to talk to him. He can't control their questions.
He can control how many interviews he participates in. The guy never met a camera / mic he did not want to get in front of. A bit of an attention whore.

Sure he could but he wants to talk about his students, coaching, etc. I think it's just people who don't like Khabib and need to find reasons to keep the dislike going.

It wouldn't be that close. In submission grappling comps, BJJ reigns supreme by a large margin.

BJJ/no gi jiu jitsu has a much different ruleset than Sambo and freestyle wrestling. Sport sambo is basically pre 1925 judo. No hammer locks(kimura/key lock/twisting shoulder locks), no heel hooks despite popular belief, no chokes, no knee on belly, and no body locks including closed guard and body triangles. Win via straight ankle lock, knee bar, calf slicer, arm bar, or the equivalent of Ippon are the most common ways. You've pretty much eliminated all the techniques that make modern submission grappling/BJJ effective. Unless you open up the ruleset to younger kids you won't see a ton of top submission grapplers coming out of that region. If attitudes change and all aspects of BJJ are accepted there, then for sure we'd see a Dagestani wave of killers rolling through ADCC, CJI, and no gi worlds.

Even with American wrestling tradition, we all start off with folkstyle and only the most dedicated go into freestyle. If kids started in freestyle here then I think the medal count may look different. We have the talent and plenty of good athletes, they just don't have the proper exposure to specific types of wrestling from an early age.

He's the best coach in MMA and has champs across multiple organizations. If anything we need to hear more from him as he's arguably the most important person in the sport.

He is not wrong but at least Ireland(my least favorite country in the world) has some good fighters they can root for, people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. has no other choice than suck off Dagestanis

James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Roy Keane, Robbie Keane, Liam Neeson, William Yeats, Robert Boyle, Colin Farrell, U2, Brian O'Driscoll... and that's just from Ireland. If we include the Irish diaspora, the amount of greatness goes through the roof. So again I ask: And what exactly is Dagestan known for other than MMA fighters, terrorists, warlords, gangsters & Putin bootlickers?

?

Not hating on Dagestan, but they are also known for their high levels of inbreeding.

The inbreeding coefficient in Daghestan ethnic groups varies from 0.005 to 0.0134 and is close to the worldwide maximum known to date. For some DNA loci, significant differences between the offsprings of consanguineous and exogamous marriages with respect to allele sizes and their variance have been found

If they'd focus more on those comps, you'd at least expect them to adopt their style though. Would be interesting to see what they would come up with.

Well, yeah, they'd adopt more BJJ into their style lol
