Khabib might not be a sambo fighter like Ben, Chael suggested

It says he began training combat sambo AGAIN.

Thru my powers of deduction...... I think that means he trained it previously.

Using some more power of deduction, we would be able to deduce that he wasnt training Sambo at age 17. But he was training from 12 wrestling, from 15 Judo. That we know, while also noting that he started wrestling at 8.

Your powers are strong luke.

Dude started combat sambo at 17. Turned pro at age 19 in MMA. Won combat world at age 21. Actually won some Pankrition competition a year before he won Combat world. If DC went into combat sambo, he would smash everyone. Does that make him combat sambo fighter

He doesnt sound sambo fighter if you look at it that way.

If a random hs wrestler or karate kid showed up to a bjj gym at 17, and started training his ass off every day for 4 years until he won the pan ams... Would he be considered a jiu jitsu fighter? Probably

When that guy started wrestling at 8 and trained BJJ from age 17, turned pro MMA at age 19, and won Panam at age 21, he would be considered BJJ fighter.
Maybe if you are training under Gracies.

To be fair, the wikipedia does state that he started training again. So, we dont know when he started and stopped. It does say that he started wrestling at 8. Then when he moved he started wrestling at 12, then Judo at 15, and then again age 17 at Combat sambo. So could he have been training combat sambo inbetween. Perhaps. But from what is written, not as likely in myopinion, but wed never know unless hear it from Khabib. But it sure does sound like he does have more of a wrestling background tho.

It's almost a complete fools errand to try and link Khabib to a singular martial art because sombo heavily overlaps with wrestling and judo in the first place.

The hierarchy of martial arts in Russia goes like this: Wrestling > Judo > Sambo. People who fail to become top wrestling prospects move on to Judo and then Sambo, if they cannot become a top judoka. Khabib started wrestling early, but didn't show an exceptional talent as a wrestler and moved on to Judo and Sambo.

The truth is, Khabib is neither a wrestler nor a sambo fighter. He's a complete grappler incorporating techniques from both wrestling and Judo/sambo.
Khabib D-level athlete confirmed. MMA and Sambo were his fallbacks, just like many UFC HWs are failed NFL/MLB players.

Saitiev brothers are true A-level athletes.

If you passed years training wrestling and judo, you passed years training a big part of sambo

lol wrestlers in denial they getting out wrestled by some other grappling art.

he always wanted to do MMA and Sambo but his dad didnt allow him until he got old enough. his father put him in those arts. not everyone in russia wants to be a wrestler or a judoka.

Your mistake is believing Wikipedia. Khabib is a wrestler, judoka, sambist, grappler and an MMA fighter.

He just happened to have won world titles in Combat Sambo so that is his most prestigious martial art and what he is defined as.

Is he not allowed to be both or something?

That's not how it works. There is no hierarchy of athletes who fail at wrestling then move on to judo. It's all available to a person's personal interest.

Though you are right that Wrestling is the most difficult combat sport to excel at in Russia. But that doesn't mean that every Sambo fighter is a failed wrestler or judoka.

You state he won world sambo title, but question if he should be called a sambo fighter or wrestler? How many world wrestling titles does he hold?
he won his title in combat sambo. which is more a ruleset than an art.

and he never won the fias world title, as far as i know. which is the true world title (even if it's a very small world).

Khabib is a wreslter, he only claims sambo for mother russia.

But all he uses is blanket wrestling in the ufc.
You must be blind as a bat. He uses a variety of different trips and throws. He also does alot more than just blanket on the ground.
