Well, I actually stand behind that statement..dumb and pointless as It was to say on an Internet forum. As I actually have some ability and over a decade of experience. Not really Interested In beating a dead horse In that sense anymore, although I would hardly call It "talking shit". More so confidence In ones abilities. Khabib's boxing, much shit as it got In the last fight looked vastly Improved. I think he's been Improving In how he approaches getting the takedown as well.

He's definitely far less reckless In that regard than he's been In the past. Though many of those habits / tendencies are deeply ingrained and can be tricky to fix completely.

As you point out too, those tendencies are deeply engrained, no matter how much you trained, much like how Cody drops that left and is a very good boxer by MMA standards.

I do also wonder if he will not be prepared for Conor, like how Aldo and Eddie thought they were prepared for sparring with Jonas Speed, and then got starched. Even Nate, who spars with super high level boxers, was said to be getting the best of Fonfara, looked shocked by Conor last time out and really couldnt do shit except swarm slap Conor and press him against the cage.

Khabib also Isn't the type of guy you're super worried of being submitted by, far more so that he'll get on top of you, ride you and maul you. Nate's been a high level BJJ Black belt for many years, trained with Kron gracie for 3-4 years..he's far more of a submission threat than Khabib

I see Khabib getting the takedown and mauling him for a time, I don't see him as a finisher though. Khabib will have his opportunities to dictate the pace of the fight, as will Conor. The only difference Is, Conor could end the fight at any moment..I'm not sure the same Is true for Khabib, based on his last few fights and his style In general but It remains to be seen.

Someone being an absolute world class striker as well is not a precondition for them fighting smart. Khabib and/or his coaches do seem to know what their doing when it comes to adjusting his standup for different opponents, Barboza for example has always looked most vulnerable standing to guys who pressure him with boxing yet Ragin Ali was looking for the counter in that kind of situation and got nothing to work with.

If Khabib is overrated it would say more potentially relative to previous LW greats than his current place in the division.

Conor does tend to fight fairly intelligently though. His fight IQ is at the very least “not low”. He wins most of his fights via striking and fight IQ.

It might be true that Khabib is overrated in the context of his place at LW history. I’d surely pick him to beat prime Penn, Sherk, Edgar and Benson. Would love to see those fights though and perhaps as Khabib’s career progresses people will feel that Penn might have outboxed him or that Edgar would have been too quick for him. He has 10 UFC wins in a row at LW tho. I don’t think Penn ever got to 10 wins in a row in his whole career.

Khabib has 8 finishes via sub, 8 finishes by TKO, and 10 decisions. He's also a world Champ in BJJ, and Sambo. Cardio is good, and has already signed a contract to defend his belt, against a fighter too pussy to fight him the night he fought Al, for his belt. Khabib is far more dangerous than Conor.
