I come from Edmonton, AB. Stampede Wrestling came from Calgary, AB. They did a show in Calgary every Friday night, and Edmonton every Saturday night ( In Edm it was called Klondike Wrestling ). Now if you really know pro wrestling you know that the Hart Family owned that promotion. I used to watch the Hart family, Jim Neidhart, the British Bulldogs, Chris Benoit, and others yrs before they made it to the WWF. We were really spoiled. These guys all went on to win every belt in the WWF.
So, I was a huge fan even into my 20s. I knew it was not 100 % real from a very young age. By the time I hit about 13 I knew it was actually 100 % not real. But, I still enjoyed the story lines. Plus there was a great sense of pride that came from all those Stampede wrestlers getting over on the whole sport for many yrs in the WWF.
But, in my 20s new fighters were emerging. The shtick was just not funny or entertaining anymore. So, I just stopped watching. The first time I saw the UFC I was hooked. It was 100 % real. Almost everything they pretended to do in wrestling was actually legal in MMA. I haven't watched a wrestling match for a cpl decades. How do you justify watching the WWE, when there is the UFC ?
