Kevin Holland vs Kyle Daukaus? Holland feeling lockish

A lock?

Marvin Vettori took Kevin down 11 times.

If Daukaus gets a single takedown Holland is in serious danger of being submitted.

Worth remembering Kyle fought Brendan Allen, last opponent to submit Holland, on a weeks notice and took him down 3 times.

This is a 50/50 fight.

you are talking about guys who are a lot stronger than holland though and full of fast twitch fibers..ive been watching kyles fights and he cant outwrestle guys on the contender series. I dont know bro hes getting rag dolled in the fights ive seen. look how early on in this fight hes getting man handled lol.

He was only at AKA for about a week, so I’m not expecting significant. Hendricks might have drilled some good wresting techniques in to him but we’ll if he can actually utilise it.

yeah but the guys who have been out wrestling holland are PROVEN WORLD CLASS. Kyle couldnt out wrestle guys on the contender serise or the local fight scene..im not saying he sucks but hes nothing like the big guys who have been able to hold Kevin down... and as far as getting subbed ..i think thats a long shot holland is good grappler too.

I agree with you.

This guy Daukaus has been chosen SPECIFICALLY as he is not a strong wrestler. Holland is now quite good buddies with Dana & co and he lost twice in a row to top-level wrestlers Brunson and Vettori so what UFC have done is given him a very beatable guy who is not gonna be another strong wrestler.

Holland by whatever he wants in this fight. That's what's gonna happen.

right on brotha..the more i keep watching this kid kyle hes not gonna be the one. thanks for the response.

Holland doesn't give a fuck though. Daukhaus has more heart. Fading this fight. Money to be made is on Circunov via sub

Depends entirely on how much Holland's defensive wrestling has improved. Daukaus's offensive wrestling has always been a tad mediocre despite his great BJJ. I have no doubt that if he got Holland to the ground, he would be able to keep him there, do damage, and even submit him like Brendan Allen did. His top game is excellent. But he sometimes struggles getting the fight to his wheelhouse outside of a few solid go-to takedowns. His striking is also, at best, "serviceable". Any time spent with Kevin on the feet is damage getting accrued for Kyle. Typically I would give Daukaus the conditioning edge because he has tended to look really good in terms of cardio for most of his fights, but the Hawes fight showed that he is potentially as vulnerable to adrenaline dumps and wrestling himself into exhaustion as anyone under the right circumstances.

Leaning Holland, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Kyle pull this one off.

I LIKE Cirkunov ...I really do. Cheered him on all his UFC fights.
But...I just don't have that much faith anymore in him. IF he wins, I agree it'll probably be via sub.
Jotko is no joke though, and that's why he is the current favorite.

If pushed I'd probably bet on Jotko by decision. That's the way i see it going. But...Cirkunov has excellent subs.....Sometimes....

great post. thanks.. i agree i think his wrestling in general is pretty weak. He seems to get tossed around and even slammed sometimes. can he chain wrestle enough to get holland down? im not sure? im also not sure he can hold holland there. I have never seen holland outclassed with technique, just power. Also, i havent seen this BJJ yet but im also only like 5 fights into the film. I mean i see the finshes but choking lower level comp dont really mean much.

Thanks for the break down

I'd legit be amazed if Kevin Holland didn't win this fight, and probably inside the distance.

okay with the spicy tip then. i wasnt really on this fight yet im about to do some home work. thanks a lot for the lead!

Brendan Allen used technique on Holland and submitted him in under two rounds. GM3 was also getting the better of most of the grappling exchanges and really should have won that fight IMO. Daukaus is a legitimate threat to him on the mat IMO; he's young in his career so of course he doesn't have loads of killers on his resume. If you look at his record, a lot of those guys he submitted had good ones of their own and more experience than him: 7-1 (ammy), 5-2, 7-4, 12-2, 9-4, 12-5, plus a UD over a 8-1 guy. Not exactly negative or 0-0 cans here.

i dunno man.. he hasnt beaten anyone with a UFC win? and watching these fights dude is getting literally tossed around. Did you watch the allen fight? That wasnt him getting out techniqued it was poor fight IQ. he played his game the whole fight. HOLLAND was the one who took down allen in round 2. I guess because of the success he had in round 1 with the cut. Then as he got tired he got reversed and got choked out. He wasnt getting out grappled. He for sure wasnt getting bullied either. I think this was just a learning type fight for holland. with all of the defensive wrestling hes been working on and the match up hes got, i highly doubt hes going to go out there and shoot a bad take down. I get Holland lost the fight...but it wasnt like that fight is a good indicator. Holland won round 1 and then played a dangerous game and loss. I forgot how good that fight was lol. I do agree that Kyle is a threat..its mma..but i just dont think its a very big one. we see it often these guys who only have wins over guys who have never won in the UFC...usually when they take a step up its a clear loss.. Nasart comes to mind just recently vs hooker. I actually watched those fights of his theres a few on fight finder..take Mike Lombardo for example. He was a 1 loss guy and hes now 12-2. Watch that fight and tell me that guy is UFC caliber? hes not and even was rag dolling kyle a little bit.

Also, Kyle was able to take allen down becuase allen will do basically anything just to get the fight to the ground he isnt even really defending take downs hes just jumping on subs.

I don't follow. You asked for examples of Kevin being outgrappled solely by technique and not power (presumably so as to try stave off the inevitable and legitimate examples of Stewart, Brunson, and Vettori wrestlefucking him?). I provide an example of Allen doing so and you say it doesn't fit your criteria. I find your reasoning questionable at best, because having a dominant position over your opponent, getting reversed, and then submitted is the very epitome of getting schooled by the superior technical grappler in my book. What's next? Are you going to tell me that Rockhold reversing Chris and Boestch before murdering both men on the ground wasn't an example of them getting outgrappled?

You also say that the Allen example shouldn't count against Holland because it's not him getting outgrappled or bullied... so we are including bullying, i.e. overpowering now? Because you specified technique only with Holland, yet you seemed happy to talk about all the times Daukaus gets overpowered tossed around in the cage. Difference being that when Kevin got outwrestled, he tended to stay on his back and lose rounds. Daukaus often submitted the dudes doing the tossing. Vastly different tiers of competition, yes, but I think you get my point.

Nasrat is a non-sequitur. I picked against him and with confidence at that. Honestly I thought Hooker might even TKO him. I also never said Lombardo was a UFC-caliber or elite guy. It is entirely possible for wins to be legitimate without opponents being of that caliber, especially for modern prospects. Again, I think you're getting too hung up on the ragdolling thing considering the end result.

Also, Kyle was able to take allen down becuase allen will do basically anything just to get the fight to the ground he isnt even really defending take downs hes just jumping on subs.

Sometimes, yes. Other times he practices decent fundamentals. That's an oversimplification of the Daukaus fight in any case. If anything, his output and conditioning wilted slightly and Kyle was thus able to pressure him more effectively, exploiting his superior cardio and leveraging his own grappling skillset. I've seen peoole score Rd 3 a 10-8 for Daukaus to make it a Draw, though I don't agree with it.

At this point I think we're debating past one another -- and unnecessarily at that. We both favor Holland in this fight. I don't think it's productive to argue about how much of a loser we expect the other guy to be ;)

My sole remark was that I wouldn't be overly shocked if the fight ended up on the ground: maybe Holland has another moment of poor fight IQ and shoots on Kyle or follows him to the ground after rocking him, maybe Daukaus drags him down with a well-timed TD if/when he gets overzealous with the striking, etc. We've seen Kyle take people down and submit them. We've seen Holland get taken down many times. The wrestling clinics he's been going through in the meantime absolutely should help prevent this, but until I see it in action I'm not going to dismiss the entire possibility out of hand. All that being said, yes, it's clear why Holland is a healthy favorite but there have been worse dogs than Daukaus IMO.

I’m a Holland fan ….not sure what he’s done for his striking to be held in such high regard

first of all i got your post lol..not harsh at all. Secondly thanks man seriously. These types of conversations are the exact type i need to get these types of predictions correct. I hear everything your saying and after coming back hours later its easier to see how that post was all over the place lmfao. In the end you are correct lock is the wrong word. A good bet is a better term.

Without talking forever ill try to get it out more clearly lol. It seems like in 2019 when he fought allen he wasnt really aware that he had TDD issues. I think he just got complacent fighting someone elses game and it cost him dearly in this fight. I think that the 3 wrestling fuckings that came after were a little different. I think he literally wasnt able to get up. So what i was trying to say before i fucked it all up is I think hes going to try very hard to stop the take down this fight and keep it standing (which he didnt do vs allen). I also think that hes strong and athletic enough to keep kyle from doing him like the other 3. So yes i was all over the place lmfao. Im glad to hear that you do at least like holland as the mf ticket is already placed lol!! You are correct in everything you said bro. Im over here moving the FG post lol..sorry sherbro
