Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Looks good, Legio. You are still accelerating at the bottom of your decent, but it's definitely not significant. How much do you think you're getting at the bottom?

Keo's speed on the DL is also incredible. Even with at stupid weights it shoots off the floor like soneone activated a giant electromagnet on the ceiling.

Snap didn't even see that. Thanks.
I'm not sure off the bottom, I didn't even think to check. Only checked the top. I know it's considerably less than 135 because one plate dropped like a rock but I guess it'd be helpful to actually know. Instead of using dumbells to check, as that'd be a long walk and I'm lazy, I used the bar and added 2.5's a side until it sat in the J-hooks to determine the top.

Did you guys just get those black and yellow racks? I think they kept one for the show room down at sorin.

Nice benching Keo, you have great speed through those bands

p.s. dont forget your pick 3 choices

We've had them since we opened in August of 2010. I actually assumed the color scheme was at the request of our school; I'm surprised that Sorinex has this as their standard model. Anyway, they're pretty nice.

And thanks all for the compliments--the speed on those benches felt a little slow on that day, but not egregiously so.

This was a good deadlift session--705 felt faster and easier than 700 did six weeks ago. I have trouble accelerating off the bottom on reverse bands, and I just wasn't aggressive enough on 715 to develop the speed I needed to pull it through lockout. Looking at this video, I got closer than I had originally though; I really should have stuck with it more.

Nice job Keo, hell of a deadlift

Steve thinks you're secretly hiding straps. Was it difficult to hold onto 700+ pounds?

I used straps on the last rep because my hands were starting to get beat up. But no, it wasn't difficult, and in my defense, it's not close to 700+, even at the top.

Beast deadlift! I got a stupid question (not really familiar with bands, just a little physics), does that mean the bar is heavier at the top because it's less stretched? If so, then what is the difference between using the bands regular (attached to the floor) vs reverse band? It seems that both of them makes the bar heavier at the top.

Bands on the floor are going to pull the bar down. Reverse bands are going to pull the bar up. This helps so you can put more weight on the bar.

And yes, heavier at the top because the band isn't as stretched, so it can't pull up as much.

Thanks. So let's say a band will add 100 lbs when stretched, i'll give this two scenarios:

Band attached to barbell with 500 lbs: @bottom you will be pulling 500 lbs, @top will be 600 lbs.

Reverse band attached to barbell with 600 lbs: @bottom you will be pulling 500 lbs, @top will be 600 lbs.

What's the difference between these two then?

I'm really looking forward to reverse band pulling tomorrow now. Assuming I can talk the group into doing it.

Good work KPK.

I have responses to make, but they'll have to wait until later, because I have to log my session yesterday quick before I head out the door:

Still struggling with pain. I will be cutting down on the pressing volume to try and rest. I'll also be stopping DE benching for a few weeks, as it's become murder on my tendons.
