Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Yea we do some close grip stuff but I feel a fairly big difference between these grips so that's how I do it. My competition grip is index on the rings so I'm fairly wide to begin with. I'm not sure how much carry over I'd get for dynamic work with a super close grip.

My close grip is really fast for about six inches, then totally stalls out. It's ridiculous.

And if you think you're wide, my competition grip's the same, except I've got a tiny frame, lol.

I thought you said the other day you were 160...Keo is teh skinny fat

Pinkies on the rings feels super wide for me now.

My tricep jaktness has gone over 9000, though. (Relatively speaking.)

I'm not sure what the deal is w/ my bench to be honest. I'm stronger out wide than closer in. But when I close grip (index on the smooth) I'm still relatively strong. I've hit 235x3 which is only 15-20lbs less than my paused 1RM out wide. My triceps don't feel like a weak point (though they are weak). It's weird, my bench is just fucked up.

How dare you.

Started powerlifting, got a six pack. Can't explain that. Lulz...

what. I thought all powerlifters were fat

Thread's getting weird now.

Haha sorry, I'll control myself now.

I posted/will be posting a bench form check in my log. Do you mind checking it out? I tried to figure out where to put my feet so that they are flat. I feel like I've lost a lot of arch and some power but I also did notice there was A LOT less pressure on my spine and I felt more comfortable.

Quick question 'bout bench grip... What exactly is considered close grip, and wide grip. My normal grip is about a thumbs length from the smooth. And i'm just now realizing that 90% of bench videos i've seen use a much wider grip than this lol.

I think it's totally dependent upon the individual, Gfreak. For me, a normal grip would be a grip in which your forearms would be directly perpendicular when the bar's at your chest IF your elbows were tucked, say, 45 degrees. Jenn Thompson says to measure the width from clavicle bone to clavicle bone, then double it, and that's a good bench press grip width; for most people, I would say that's a normal grip.

Close grip, for me, could be anything within this range, but a real "close grip" bench press would be close enough so that your forearms just about run up against your torso if you're benching with your elbows tucked properly. Some--like many bodybuilders--bench even closer, but this to me is an ideal close-grip width.

And a wide grip could be anything wider than your normal grip, but my wide grip has me putting my index fingers on the ring. A wide grip is usually, for me, "as wide as is reasonably achievable without putting too much stress on your shoulders."
