A pair of police officers were injured and 95 protesters arrested after they smashed windows, damaged cars and threw rocks at police near Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Two DC police officers and one other person were taken to the hospital for undetermined injuries after run-ins with protesters, DC Fire Spokesman Vito Maggiolo told CNN. The injuries are non-life threatening.

Six police officers suffered minor injuries when protesters flung bricks, trash cans and other objects, and ignited small fires, Newsham said.

It's one of the things that is stomach turning over how violence in the US has been treated in the media, and here, in the past few years. I've literally watched a video where some Trump supporters came to Portland, Oregon, and during the night when they were there there is a video where a guy says "We've got a couple (Trump supporters) right here!" when some left leaning people found some of them - and then a guy went over and murdered the Trump guy. In this forum, what I remember was people saying "Well, they shouldn't have been in Portland with Gadsden flags and red hats" - and now that's just swept under the rug as not being worth noting.

There has been rioting across the US, billions in damages, looting is justified as a matter of course, prosecutors routinely let violent figures loose, there are murders in the streets based on identity and politics (but not the way we see plastered in the media), and somehow, January 6th is treated like it's some apex of political violence in the last few years and the other stuff gets whitewashed, memory holed, justified, our downright supported. It's disgusting, and the imbalance in treatment and inability to admit that your side has a real big problem is going to break the country.

As I said. I'm not American nor do I support left or right. Both sides seem to be more focused on what the other does to the exclusion of so much information simply because it doesn't mesh with a narrative they'd like to portray.

Like this situation and the other.. Google is right there it takes two seconds... but most prefer to ignore it. I really don't get it. Even rudimentary searches easily prove how dishonest some of the " media " is.. Both sides.... yet most just prefer to hear what they want and believe it because it suits the team they support. Seems even memories are forgotten if it's not the narrative people want. Which is surprising and frightening in turn.

It's like two people fighting over the steering wheel of a car while you're heading towards a cliff.... and both of you want to avoid the cliff yet still fight over the wheel. Mind boggling

Political violence will unfortunately quickly shift from larping to literal blood in the streets. Honestly considering the amount of guns in usa I'm actually surprised it hasn't occurred yet. But with 2 teams and no middle. Seems to be inevitable sadly.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm Canadian and, while we're culturally very similar to the US, there are definitely differences in philosophy and the realities on the ground. I'm pointing out political violence here and more or less putting most of the onus on the left here (I don't think that's unreasonable after two years of "fiery but most peaceful protests" rhetoric from the media about violence and death across the country, then it turns on a dime to being one of the worst events in US history with January 6th), but it is absolutely right to point out that each side has significant blindspots. Each side whitewashes over some pretty egregious stuff.

For instance, you know how people talk about violence against gay and trans people and many right-leaning people brush it off like it doesn't exist or doesn't happen in 2023? It sure as shit does - particularly when you get into Bible belt type areas or the deep south where a kid might genuinely be scared to come out, and the first instinct of a community is that they should just "pray the gay away." I even saw shades of this in the podunk Canadian town where I grew up, and there are far more extreme cases of it in the US. The whole rainbow coalition thing has gone overboard with its "accept us or you're a monster" type rhetoric - but it's attempting to deal with a real problem that still exists. The right glosses over this with glib answers of "Oh, it's 2023 - like that's happening anymore!" very similarly to how the left looks at two years of rioting resulting in billions in damages and a body count and says "Fiery - but mostly peaceful. Move along folks."

A bit more introspection from both sides would be of immense benefit to the rhetorical landscape in America.

So I guess it was true in 2016, but when Mark Zuckerberg pumped 470 million into the 2020 elections (while censoring conservatives on Facebook) and the dumbest fuck in history received more votes than anybody in history, everything was on the up and up. Why impossible for Biden to have received over 81 Million votes in 2020? Isn't a new popular vote record set just about every 4 years just do to increases in population? Particularly with 2 historically unpopular candidates running in 2016, would it not be expected for the winning in 2020 candidate, to have the all time most popular vote total? Frankly, it was also likely for the losing candidate to have gotten the second most votes of all time. I think that happened too.
