Hold on, I think maybe it’s you who should be a little more honest. Last year, a fetus was delivered at 21 weeks and survived—and it went into the Guinness Book of World Records. So sure, they technically *can* survive, but it’s practically a miracle, and it practically never happens.
It's 21 weeks and babies have survived being born at that term. So just be honest what you are really saying is its ok to kill the baby at anytime. You want to try and justify and make yourself feel better about it by saying it's not a baby that's all.
I'm not against abortion with restrictions on reasons and time limits. It's a necessary evil not something to celebrate. In certain situations it should be available.
Just a few weeks later, we hit the 3rd trimester which was already essentially forbidden by Roe, and we hit the benchmark of viability that was already present in Casey. At this point, people who were having abortions did so because the fetus wasn’t viable, or the life of the mother was at risk. These expectant mothers had been carrying the pregnancy for more than 6 months—these are people who wanted to have a child.
The difference between you and me isn’t in how tragic or sad we think this is. It’s terrible when a decision like that has to be made. The difference between us is that you think the government should be allowed to step in and force people to carry these pregnancies at great risk to their health, and I think the government should stay the hell out of it and leave the decision to the woman and her doctor.
