News Karen Read Trial

Jackson's closing arguments were intense and Lally, as usual, sounded flat.

To be honest, I tended to lean more on the side of her hitting John at first. Mainly because I know how hard it is to keep a secret and with each person, it gets exponentially harder.

That said, the Defense witnesses really made the strongest case for a cover up. Their confidence, experience and fact based arguments really sold me.

I do have to question how the Defense witnesses would have withstood Jackson had it been turned around and they were brought forth by the CW. It really speaks to how excellent Jackson is as an attorney. I would hate to be his kid.

Lally missed so many key things in his closing, led with Proctor's texts, and he introduced an entirely new theory about how John's injuries were sustained. I think the coverup is possible for a few reasons:

1. Many of those in the coverup were not involved in the direct coverup and just were told facts by incompetent law enforcement or the family at the house.

2. The Albert family has been doing this in Canton a LONG time. Very connected with an old school Boston cop in the home.

3. I think as a regular citizen, people have zero clue how terrible most professionals really are in this field. I am pro law enforcement as I am in the field, but I work closely enough with professionals in every lane to know a lot of us are shit.

I wouldn't say Karen Read is innocent in all this as I do believe she sucks. I just think she is not guilty.

can’t believe the jury couldn’t reach a unanimous decision & this ended in a mistrial.

Seriously what a miscarriage of justice! It was interesting the wording used in the jury's response note to the judge. It stated the jurors couldn't come to an agreement due to their deep-rooted beliefs they couldn't compromise. I want to know how many went guilty and how many went not guilty. Also, you see Proctor was moved?

U shouldn’t have to go through a new trial because of hung (8 plus?) jury or mistrial . If they can’t get you the first time it should be over . All that stress to do it over again

forreal. i am dumbstruck w/ the might of a thousand suns that the jury could not unanimously agree on a Not Guilty conviction due to the heaps of reasonable doubt. not guilty via reasonable doubt has felt like the only logical conclusion for weeks while the prosecution never stopped Lallygagging.

what do you think it was? blue lives matter apostles that could not exonerate Read, even on the basis of reasonable doubt, because it could implicate the LEOs involved in the case? stubborn fuckwits that could not exonerate Read because they think she is a shitty person? i seriously don’t know

what’s the situation w/ Proctor? i only overheard some coworkers talking about it, but couldn’t catch the specifics

I think it is small town new england boot licker mentally. Sometimes, people up here are police apologists and Karen Read is extremely unlikable in my opinion. That is irrelevant in the case but some cannot separate that fact. She is smug and the defense goes full coverup (I don't disagree this is a shady case but if I'm the defense, I go reasonable doubt and not coverup) so small town new england cannot wrap their head around that level of corruption. I on the other hand, worked closely fighting corruption early in my career and know it is real up here too.

The Proctor thing is pretty wild. He was transferred out of Norfolk and sent to a different field office in Massachusetts. He is under investigation for his unprofessional conduct and has a hearing coming up to determine if he keeps his job. The State Police protected him by not doing this before the verdict and during the retrial I guarantee his dismissal will be the reasonable doubt the defense needs to get a not guilty verdict. Having the lead investigator dismissed from his job is a hard thing to get over and those same boot lickers will not side with that.

Very interesting developments on this case! The jury, that ended with a mistrial had unanimously agreed to find Karen Read not guilty on 2 of the three charges brought against her, but the Judge (yet again) didn't specify where they were hung up originally and that opened the door for double jeopardy.

Karen Read may be tried again for the death of her boyfriend after the judge declared a mistrial, but murder charges may not be on the table ... because according to the defense, the vote on the murder charge was 12 - 0, IN FAVOR OF ACQUITTAL!

Read's lawyer, Alan Jackson, has just filed docs arguing prosecuting Read for 2nd-degree murder a second time would amount to double jeopardy. Shockingly, when the judge declared the mistrial, she didn't say anything about the jury's vote on the murder charge.

I simply don't get this judge time after frigging time. What are your thoughts?

I think we have to remember that Bev can and will form her own opinion of the case. I think she could be showing some bias towards the DA's side and some of her words and actions definitely seemed sketchy. However, I think it's partially the fault of the Defense team for not requesting a poll of the jury. If they were so confident, why didn't they? It would have resolved this whole mess.

Proctor's suspension without pay is a significant development, suggesting serious misconduct beyond the texts. This action by the department raises questions about the integrity of the prosecution's case and could impact the retrial.

One question here seems to be whether Judge Bev overstepped her judicial role in any way to protect law enforcement interests. It's important to examine if her level of involvement or her decisions during the trial went beyond the bounds of typical judicial conduct.

In Massachusetts, it is not allowed to poll the jury. I agree with you and when I looked that up I was like...

You can say that with all the evidence that clearly points to that being impossible to prove? Lots of experts have discussed how the physics of that don't match up.
Just my opinion on what was the most likely occurrence. A crazy drunk lady hitting her boyfriend with her car during a fight, coming to the realization that she may have seriously hurt him once she sobered up, and panicking and frantically searching for him doesn’t seem that much of a stretch.

So basically the state is hoping to find a full jury of people who don't understand "beyond a reasonable doubt"

i hope you’re never put on a jury
