Karate blackbelts in MMA

Bas Rutten has honorary black belts as well, as does Anderson Silva in Taekwondo. These things aren't reliable

Exactly. He did not earn a third degree, he was given it. What age did he quit Kyokushin and move on to realistic training?
Why does it matter?
GSP is a black belt in Karate.
He holds a legit black belt which he earned.
Thus he is on the list of Karate black belts who fought in MMA.

Nobody gets so picky in my Judo blackbelts thread.
Nobody asks "when did this guy quit Judo move on to realistic training?"
Nobody says "this guy's Judo belt doesn't matter because he only did Judo in his teens!"

Because not all of them earned them. Both Anderson and Bas Rutten were coloured belts.

As soon as spacetimes new alt account gets found out (usually after 2 or 3 posts), he reverts to just trolling.

He is a low rank coloured belt at a self confessed TKD McDojo (which is why he has admitted to having stiff hips, and not enough flexibility to get his kicks above the waist).

But with clips of him from a dubious angle and a time limit of 1.6 seconds he attempts to fool everyone into thinking that he is a prodigy of martial arts...

But unfortunately for him (and us), his martial arts skill is worse than his trolling

I think so, I just saw him mentioned in r/karate so I don't know much about him
Reading the interview I suddenly LOLed.
QUOTE: "Levy relocated with his then girlfriend and now wife, Dana, from central Israel to Las-Vegas in 2016." :D

Karate is one background sports for many. The thing is, they have trained alot more too.
There's also so many ways of karate that it's difficult to have conversation about it. There are styles that would woop every UFC roster but let's not get into that.
If kid wants to be MMA champion, I don't think karate in general is the best road for that. Karate as a martial art is a great. But as a sport, not so much. There are sports karates, and I don't find them as great martial arts.

If you look at percentages Kyokushin (unsurprisingly) is the style which provides a majority of "Karate-belted" MMA fighters - 26%. Shotokan is second with 12%.

If you add up the popular knock-down styles (Kyokushin, Seidokaikan, Shidokan, Ashihara) then it's a whopping 35% of all fighters!

Definitely unsurprising for Kyokushin to dominate the stats as an individual style, but for ALL knockdown karate styles to collectively add up to only 35%...

That means 65% of MMA karateka were actually pointfighters???
