Karate blackbelt Jesse Enkamp demonstrates why BJJ does not work

The allegation is “grappling doesnt work in da streetz” and here it is working.

Turns out when bum ass black belts get way too drunk BJJ works really well on them.

It is like saying striking in a fistfight doesn't work because a drunk kickboxer got hit with a piece of wood or something.

He's not wrong, but the techniques taught work when standing or in other positions. I've always seen jiu jitsu as a last ditch response in a fight, or if the opportunity for a guillotine or the like presents itself. It's also important to be able to defend yourself from grappling.

It's not the main art, but it's absolutely vital to make ones standup complete.

A black belt in pretty much any martial art will have an advantage over a white belt in another martial art. Seems pretty obvious to me. An advanced understanding of defense brings you a long way.

It just shows bij has some possible flaws, especially on the lower level (white belts) and when someone is physically weaker. If he tried to do this at a higher level, let's say against a good purple belt, he probably would be submitted within one minute and then suddenly 'bjj works' .

OP, the guy beat a white belt. LOL

Stripping someone's grip is a technique taught in BJJ. Abandoning the open guard is legit. I've done it.

This guy is just full of shit. My real base is boxing/wrestling, but I have a purple in BJJ and a Black Belt in Karate, so I kinda like when people can find practical ways to use Karate, but this ain't it.

He's full of shit, but he's not as bad as some of the guys from my old school who are still fantasizing about how to fight and come up with simple ways to fight a grappler, that wouldn't work but maybe once in a thousand times. The UFC's biggest contribution was wiping out all those old martial arts schools and making the ones who had something good going on, made them up their games.

I wonder why they'd allow him in that comp to make his video. I used to have a "Sifu" (chinese for master) who claimed he had a way to beat the gracies, I think he said he'd pinch them or something. He was like 70 at the time too.

I usually like his vids a lot and i'm no BJJ fanboy at all, but he's being bizzarre asshole on this one lol

BJJ may be "uncomplete" by itself and not doing much to fix it, but so does Karate by not having ground game

Even debunking the fake stats of "90% of fights ends on the ground", does'nt follow up with the actual % of fights that indeed ends on the ground and how karate don't have much answers for that %
Let's say it's even just 30% (instead the wrong 90), it's still an enormous portion of risk to be completely helpless against, even if fight indeed it starts standing

Essentially logic he's pushing could be reversed against his art too, playing very same silly gimmicks

Would be different if he was talking as MMA or Sambo rep claiming his style cover all areas of the fight, while BJJ does'nt... but doing it as Karate rep is bit pot calling the kettle black lol

What an idiot. So what?! Boxers don't train anything besides boxing.
It's still huge benefit to train boxing as is bjj.

He's just trying to save face as a karate guy cause of his frail competitive mindset while his subconscious already knows he'll get trashed 1 vs 1 most the times.

I got no horse in this argument but I actually know a black belt that got stabbed because his dumbass decided to fight on the streets. Stuff happens and we should always try to avoid chaotic confrontations.
I know two karate black belts who are absolutely worthless in any fight cause they will freeze if the shit hits the fan.

His brother is an MMA fighter. I think you've missed the point.

So you're thinking he made that ridiculous video for educational reasons?! Way to tell who missed the point here.

What has why I think he released that video got to do with you not understanding the central message of the video?

Do you think that people's internal motivation is the content they produce? That's obviously not the case. So what are you trying to say here? Your words are not cutting it, if we assume your thoughts are ordered.

Man trains in BJJ to prove BJJ doesnt work?

Trading punches with someone should be your last ditch effort. Taking them down should be the first.

For people who dont fight other people you guys have a LOT of opinions about what does and doesnt work
