Media Kamaru Usman On fighting Khamzat "Nothing special, there was nothing different that I haven't seen"

That first round was pretty insane as far as domination goes. Khamzat clearly has an issue with pacing, thinking he should steamroll everyone, which works like wonders when it does, but ends up leaving him more vulnerable than required when it doesn't.

Usman really surprised me that night.

I rarely go out to watch cards, but that was the last one I saw in a bar here in Chiang Mai, Thailand — and holy sh*t.

I honestly thought that when Khamzat had the choke, Usman was done. I was sure that was it (first round, I don’t remember exactly when).

I’ve seen a lot of people giving Usman sh*t after that fight — mostly uneducated fans — but people seem to forget he took that fight on nine days’ notice and went up a division.

Usman is far from my favorite fighter, but he definitely gained my respect that night. And with his recent performance against Buckley, who I consider a legit guy at 170, I think the UFC should book Usman vs. Belal. That’s the fight to make for both of them because a win would either secure, or come very close to securing, a title shot.

Of course, you’ve got Shavkat (where the fk is he?), Gary, and Brady waiting. Why not make them fight each other?

Personally, I’d book Belal vs. Usman and Gary vs. Brady, and whoever gets the most impressive win gets the next shot.

Shavkat has been MIA for over a year now. No clue where he is.

Anyone with eyes can see that, he sprints in the first round and then just looks like a run of the mill fighter after that. And he wasn’t even able to do much of anything to Usman on the ground. Usman had more trouble with Colby and Leon.
Usman had ZERO offense in the first round. I think that Means Khamzat did some stuff. Should have been a 10-7's across the board.

Nothing different?

Even though you got 10-8'd in round one the first 10-8 of your career, he's nothing different?

This.
I know that fight was close, because Chimaev's cardio was poor and he lost on the feet although it was close, but the first round was amazing. It was a clear 10-8, on the ground, against a top wrestler.

I am not a Chimaev fan, but come on, what he does on the ground is impressive AF.
Also, Rob never lost in UFC in that way, he was dominated from the start.

Shavkat is coming back this November against Brady 90% happening

By taking a short notice fight at a weight class he never fought in before at the tail end of his career.

People were expecting Khamzat to steamroll him in a minute.

same conditions apply

who else at MW wrestles Usman to the ground like that in the 1st round?

Is Khamzat the only one in the entire division that would be able to do that?

10-7 is a huge stretch. But I do agree with you that Usman was all about surviving in that round.

It could've been a 10-8 tbh. But I don't mind a 10-9 either. You can't deny how good Usman defense was though. I for sure thought he was a goner when Khamzat had that choke.

Looking back at the fight, I agree with all three of those points. Usman did really well in a higher weight class and I wished the fight had been five rounds.
Khamzat loses in a 5 rd fight, it was obvious Usman was taking over after Khamzat blew his load. Unfortunately DDP doesn't have the wrestling of Usman, it'll be hairy for a few rds. DDP will be on his back for a while imo.

I was feeling pretty confident in DDP until I saw that video of him and Khamzat -- I had no idea how big Khamzat was. That's going to be a rough train to stop, for sure.
