Meh.I would have preferred that he did, but they put a whole group of candidates on the stage for the world to watch who took turns bad mouthing Trump so if anything he did him self a disservice. He had to essentially debate Nicky Haley regularly in the public and they actually had a primary where voters got to vote on these options. That is NOT what the the DNC did, not even close. You can't sit there and pretend like the DNC is having legitimate primaries. Trump faced criticism from opposing candidates and addressed it in public, Kamala wasn't even a candidate. There was ZERO public scrutiny for Kamala while Trump was constantly under opposition attacks.
Firstly, Trump didn’t “essentially” debate Nikki Haley. Giving speeches at rallies is not debating, and history is full of people who were polling well until they talked at a debate, or an opponent performed well at a debate, so Trump’s “I’m polling so well I don’t need to debate anyone” excuse is pure trash.
Every year, we have states that don’t have primaries. This past year, only 15% of registered republicans were able to participate in the Iowa caucus. Furthermore, basically every year, a nominee is locked down before thousands or even millions of voters get to vote. It was that way in my state for both the Dem and GOP primaries this year, it was that way in my state in 2020 too. This year, Delaware canceled primaries altogether because the whole thing was over before anyone there voted.
On top of all that, Biden is not running. It’s not like he’s campaigning and somebody stole the nomination. He dropped out altogether. This has happened before, there are processes for this, and those are being followed. This whole “Dems are subverting democracy” argument is just nonsense from the GOP, trying to muddy the waters and district from their own election crimes. It’s a silly argument.
