Elections Kamala Harris for POTUS

Trump will do nothing to lower inflation

@Islam Imamate
Its not just that he won't do that, its that he and Vance are running on policies that predictably increase inflation. Namely, protectionism.

This kind of protectionist policy, if implemented, would almost certainly lead to price increases.

Would prices go up because of that? Likely. I would say at least there is a trade off that makes it somewhat tolerable versus inflation due to monetary and spending policy.

Its the opposite, the inflation we got from a strong stimulus had a positive trade off(generated strong demand which led to a roaring economy) while wanton protectionism for the sake of preserving outdated jobs that could be more cheaply done by outsourced labor will increase prices without necessarily growing the economy.

That’s an opinion.

I am not saying not to spend. It was a general comment on a video you posted. I don’t support Vance.

In some sense sure its my opinion but orthodox economists generally agree with me which is why even the National Review put out an article(behind a paywall unfortunately) criticizing Vance for that.

Didn’t I just say I don’t support Vance and they have no plan to lower inflation?

I'm clarifying that its not merely that they don't have a plan to lower inflation but actually they have a plan to increase it on purpose through protectionism. In response to that you seemed to say that its not all that bad and in fact is preferable to the inflation we got from the stimulus fueled, full employment economy.

My response is that both parties will increase inflation. I see the merit in both wanting to bring jobs here and the necessity of needing to spend out of recession/slow down.

I am lamenting unnecessary government spending and a monetary policy which leads to an ever inflationary world.

I see no merit in making Americans pay more for appliances and its absurd to say one million cheap appliances is not worth one manufacturing job that is low on the value chain anyway. Its looney tunes economics.

@Deorum

Sounds like we should offshore every American manufacturing job. Kind of the opposite of what is actually happening

Is that what I said? Try and be honest now.

If you follow your logic, you see no merit in making Americans pay more based on American manufacturing.

I don’t support what he said. It’s stupid.

I see no merit in imposing tariffs to bring back manufacturing jobs that are low on the value chain anyway when outsourced workers in other countries are perfectly capapble of making cheap toasters.

I do want investment in American manufacturing in critical sectors like defense and computing partly because there are national security concerns around those industries and partly because those are manufacturing jobs that are higher on the value chain and thus provide better jobs than toaster manufacturers would.
