Kaepernick: Admoration, hatred, why is this a story? Merge Thread

"The NFL is a slave trade."

- Multi-multi-multi-millionaire retired star football player, Warren Sapp.

How'd covering up concussions been going for them.

If anything the NFL is as dirty as any other billion dollar corporation.

And Sapp made is own money off his blood sweat and tears

Over half of the men in this country, white folks included would love to trade their lives with Kaepernick.

I would love to experience the level of oppression he did all through life, lol.

And it doesn't surprise me that libs are jacking off to this self righteous act.

Bringing light to an imaginary problem that hasn't existed since the 60s. This country did make Kaepernick rich. If people didn't give a shit about football, he would have no money.

Try again please.
Repeating dumb logic doesn't make it better. And his income is still completely irrelevant.

Athletes get to where they are based off their abilities, hard work and dedication.

Most athletes are exploited. Especially the stand out stars.

They're used from high school till their pro career ends.

In a healthy society, this form of non-violent protest should be allowed, but his employers have their prerogative as well, and they might see this demonstration as something that reflects on them, therefore they may choose to take action based upon his refusal to honor the United States.

I wish Kaepernick himself would elaborate further on just what the fuck his problem is with the country that has provided him the leverage and latitude to be who he is, and if he has, I'd like to hear it.

I personally see this as counter productive to the race issues in America, as we are all Americans here, and furthermore, we are member of the human race, first and foremost. No one segment of society is perfect, let alone the whole, and there are and always will be corrections that can be made. However, simply acknowledging that there is a problem is not enough. We need solutions. Blame-game hot potato does no one any good.

Kaepernick is the American Dream. Perhaps he should focus on that, why that is, and seek to inspire those he feels are disadvantaged. Where there's a Will, there's a Way.

Also, I wonder if the circumstances he feels are hurting the black community are also issues faced by members of other groups? And what are his proposed solutions to the problems he's addressing?
The NFL can't take any action against him. This is pretty much like that one kid in class at elementary school that for whatever reason didn't stand up for the pledge of allegiance.

Did he refuse to play or does he not care that much?

College athletes are exploited. Pro athletes making absurd amounts of money to play a kid's game? No. They're compensated quite nicely.

And they end up with multi million dollar contracts...is that not compensation?

What is your gripe here?

Yes their bodies and physical well being are exploited.

Fatso sofa couch potatoes seem to have a problem absorbing this.

Also I don't think NFL players make absurd amounts of money. Baseball players have that on lock down

At their own will. Nobody is holding a gun to their head.

Tell us how it really is, Manning.

They all play a kid's game.

A lot of these kids play football just to appease their parents.

They grew up on a steady diet of it. Entire towns are driven off this. Entire families are driven by this.

A kids game. Lol. what does that even mean??

And none of that changes the fact that these ayers are exploited. The NFL covered up concussions up for decades.
BS they aren't exploited

This is the NFL which forces in political crap at every turn, be it the national anthem, saluting the troops, everyone wearing pink, telling us to stop beating our wives, and having Bob Costas cry about gun violence.

I don't agree with Kaepernick's point of view, but if he wants to make a political point he has every right to. Likewise, I think the national anthem is dumb and creepy/brainwashy like athletes praising Supreme Leader in North Korea.

No, actually he doesn't, not while under the employment of the NFL. People can do whatever they want personally, but if you're currently working you have to follow your employers code of conduct. You want to make a political statement, go right ahead and do so on social media or during a personal interview. But you can't do whatever you want, or say whatever you want, when you're acting as an emissary of a company who is paying you. But, in this particular case, the NFL said it's not mandatory to stand, so he's good to go.

For what it's worth, I couldn't give a shit less if this guy doesn't want to stand for the national anthem. Truth be told, I think it's an outdated practice of playing it at every sporting event anyway. For most fans who rarely go to a game it's something kind of cool, but for players who do that shit at every single game, I'm sure it gets old quick. Stand, don't stand, whatever... the people upset about this are the same assholes who were mad at Gabby Douglas for not putting her hand over her heart, although she did stand at attention with a smile on her face.

If the 9ers want to suspend/cut him, he'd be fine with it because his salary is guaranteed this year.

Lol, yea covering up concussions was dirty, but that still doesn't make willful employment for millions of dollars slave trade. Not even close.

College and team doctors years back were all about the team and their financial success and less worried bout the players.

That is exploitation

Yes they are exploited to a small degree but are more then compensated. Not saying the NFL should not be held responsible.

However this is far from slavery and compared to shit that happens to normal working people nothing.

I hold my sympathy for the families of my friends that have died from asbestos. You know the normal working people that really been exploited.

The National Anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.

People who work with asbestos also don't generate hundreds of millions for teams and corporation.
Huge difference and bad comparison

It's Kong, he always has to find something to cry about on here.

It's absolutely nothing but an attempt at a cheap power grab by people with a tan taking advantage of the kindness that less tan people have shown regarding the matter. It's about social advantage, not equality. It's even about individual advantage as pieces of garbage like this guy try to make it harder to fire them than others. It's a scam, and I'm growing tired of it. Blacks are 14% of the population, at best, yet they (and idiot simple minded women) think "diversity" means half PoC. It's a scam. This is a whiter suburb; all the government offices and better jobs are hiring more than half minorities.. My dad is a lifelong democrat voter and he knows that every entity out there is looking to fill its diversity quota, making it hard for normal white males to get their shot. In college, none of the black students had any problem finding great jobs that they shouldn't have even had until they graduated. If you pull up your pants and go to college, as a black person, you have it wayyy easier out there at the moment. There is racism and unfairness right now, it comes from the media and PC culture and it is pointed at the working class average white male. Nobody else. Sorry about the truth. It's making white males act like f**king women at work, tbh, an that's as annoying as anything.
