Will try to see if I can get these right. Please feel free to correct me:

Latin - anything / anyone relating to Latin language (ex: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Latin America)

Latino - same as above but is referring to a person.

American(o) - A citizen of the USA, technically speaking. This refers to a person's nationality (not ethnicity or race).

However, in common daily usage, this is (incorrectly) referred to as someone who is a US citizen of European descent.

Hispanic - referring to a person from a Spanish speaking culture.

The one difference between Hispanic and Latino is that Hispanic refers only to people from Spanish speaking countries/cultures, whereas Latino also includes people from Portuguese speaking countries.

Why not say hes Hispanic, everyone calls Barack Obama black

Justino Gaeyo from now on

Latino/a is someone of Latin American origin. It's shorthand for Latino Americano.

Isn't his mother actually Mexican? Ofcourse it would have a greater impact. His dad is American plain and simple

I thought he was born in Mexico. I was surprised to find out that he's actually ethnically Mexican. How often does it happen that a kid born from a hispanic parent of brown skin and a white anglo saxon protestant/or german in this case turns out like gaethje? Is this a common occurrence?

That's correct, but isn't Latino/a technically also applies for someone from Spain, Portugal, and other countries whose languages have Latin as the origin (ex: Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Romanian, Catalan, Romansh)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin#Contemporary_Latin

In the US, it's my observation that many believe Latino/a is only referred to someone from Central or South America, but by definition, this is incomplete and not totally correct.

The Aztec blood runs through his veins. El Guero Loco!

Latin & Latino are 2 different things. Latino/a is also a new, contemporary term. Latino includes Dominicans, Cubans, Haitians, etc,. not just people from Central or South America.

In fact, Rosalia who is from Spain consistently catches flack online from Latinos for appropriating and pretending to be Latino when she's not.

LOL, I guess people from Spain are being outcasted. :p

But I think I understand the sentiment from people from Latin America not accepting a mainstream pop star from Spain who don't live in and/or take the time to truly understand Latina American cultures as a "Latina."
