They screwups started way before this year. Dana literally ruined the LW division matchmaking just so they could save ufc 300. Gaethje was the logical opponent for Islam, Dana robbed Peter to pay Paul. The division never recovered from that. Both max and Justin are damaged goods now and Islam was forced into a less than ideal defense against Dustin followed by the Arman screwup. Great job Dana.

Who held a gun to Islam's head and told him to suddenly announce the moment UFC 300 ended that he would be returning only at UFC 302 in 6 weeks or not at all and the division needed to accept that timeline?

The difference between the Jones and Islam situations is that Jon has 1 opponent they simply need to finish the negotiations on. He can't defend against anybody else now that Pereira lost the only plausible competing claim. It's Aspinall or nothing.

Meanwhile Islam has 6 guys he could defend against but isn't taking any of them so Islam is actually worse. Defend against the lesser Justin or Paddy for all we care if you want Arman, Ilia, Charles, and Max to fight each other for the follow up shot in the fall/winter. Max already is by taking the Poirier fight. Defending against none of them is indefensible though.

its amazing what happens when you lose interest in putting together quality shows, versus volume. Each have their place, but man, there is limited interest in their shows in the next two months. without a saving grace, it will be a disaster. Alex vs Tom - lets do it!
