Metal/Rock/Industrial Just discovered Iron Maiden

This might be an unpopular opinion, but as a bass guitarist/musician Steve Harris > Geddy Lee (or at least his equal).

-Writes the songs, and they are complex, classically-influenced 6+ minute songs at that.
-Incredible bass playing speed and chops. His galloping right hand technique is legendary. He doesn't stay pedaling the root. If you listen to a live show where the bass cuts through well, he is basically playing a unison riff or counterpoint riff to the guitars throughout the entire song. With his fingers.
-When his signature "West Ham United" bass was released by Fender, I remember seeing a youtube video of a jazz snob doing an instrument review and basically looking at the camera and saying, "Look, I know what you are thinking...Iron Maiden? But in doing research on how this bass guitar came to be, I found myself humbled and inspired by Steve Harris' musicianship."

I think Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse is underappreciated too, mainly because of the nature of his music I guess, someone who plays songs like “Fucked with a knife” probably won’t ever get mainstream attention.

I've only been listening to them properly since last year, they are amazing. I'd love to see them live.

Powerslave is one of my favourite albums ever.

I have seen their art and stuff over the years and thought it was a clothing brand or something.

Came across them on Apple music and I was absolutely blown away. Really liking the Virtual XI, The X Factor, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son albums.

Any Iron Maiden fans on Sherdog? What are your favorite albums.?

Used to listen to them in the late 80s.
Only bought 1 album : Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
Favorite song was: Can I play with Madness.

Been eons since I listed to them.

Iron Maiden was one of the best live shows I’ve ever been too.

Interesting albums to start with. I am obsessed with Somewhere in Time album

Hallowed be Thy Name is a perfect song.

I remember reading guitar forums back in 2000. Everyone used to shit on Papa Roach for stealing the Hallowed be thy Name riff in their song Last Resort. They stole the Brain Stew riff and played it throughout that song as well.

Those were the days when caring about shit like that seemed important.

I love Maiden but I can only listen to them in smaller doses, I just think a lot of their shit sounds the same.

They're great on wax and even better live though, ATG metal band.

That's hilarious. I thought they ripped off Genghis Khan for Last Resort? Papa Roach also ripped off Prowler for their song Angels and Insects. What a bunch of cucks.

Ha you're right on both accounts there. I didn't mind it at the time because old school metal was being phased out for Nu metal so I didn't mind some of the old school riffs being brought back. Not to go off topic but Pantera stealing Exhorder's sound is even more egregious.

Wow I'm a big Pantera fan and I never heard of these guys, you can definitely hear the similarities, lol @ Phil biting this guy's style. You could have told me this was an unreleased Pantera demo or something

There's bands copying their sound now. Kind of sad, in a way, how directly newer bands just try to sound like others.

Iron maiden was cool in their time. We weren't big into them in the 90s, but i always thought they were cool.

My brother is a huge fan and used to make me listen to them in the 80s when I was a kid. I actually liked some of their songs. Rime of the Ancient Mariner was my favorite back then. I still still listen to them from time to time.

Lol I remember putting on some Exhorder and my friends asked “what Pantera album is this?”

I was just listening to the Chemical Wedding. Amazing.
out of all his solo albums. Accident of Birth was easily my favorite. I am not even sure why that album just caught me like seventh son.

Came across this little gem in my YouTube recommended videos.

Welcome to the club.

Bithead1000 taking about the greatest band of all time at 4:50 and 24:00

Bruce Dickinson singing some lines from revelations

Revelations (official song) - probably the best song of all time

Rainmaker - another great tune
