Metal/Rock/Industrial Just discovered Iron Maiden

I'm a big metal fan, but I could never get into Maiden.
I’m with this guy. Maiden has been copying themselves since the beginning, they haven’t changed their sound at all. And even the songs get super repetitive. Guitars sound muddy and Steve Harris is always there galloping. Gets old real fast. I understand why people like them, they were my favorite band when I first got into metal.

You want the real gods go listen to Priest. GOAT vocals, GOAT albums more than a handful of which are all killer no filler (Painkiller, Sad Wings, Stained Class, Defenders >>>>>>>> any Maiden album easily), GOAT songs (Victim of Changes, The Ripper, The Sentinel, Electric Eye, etc. etc.), anthems (Breaking the Law, Hellbent for Leather, etc. unlike cheesy shit like Run to the Hills lol) and solos (Painkiller, Beyond the Realms of Death, Dreamer Deceiver, Sinner, etc. I can go on forever), every album has a different sound, it’s a damn shame nobody in the thread has suggested the Metal Gods (they’re literally called that) outside of referencing the movie.

One of my favourites growing up - first saw them on the World Slavery Tour (Powerslave Album) was young so I barely remember it - twisted sister opened for them.

Saw them on the Somewhere in Time tour

Saw them on the Seventh Son Tour - Guns-n-Roses opened for them (just before G-n-R exploded).

That must have been cool as fuck, dude. What I'd give to have been alive and in my teens/20's back when metal was still the shit.

My personal favourite Maiden song. It's just a throwaway filler track to them I'm sure but to me it's their greatest song, and it's better than almost any song by any other band. Powerslave is such an incredible album.

I agree with this to a large extent. Although I do love them, I find their songs to be repetitive and it's a steep diminishing returns when I listen to them. I would put on an Iron Maiden album and tap out by the 4th or 5th song, whereas a band like Pantera or Metallica I would listen straight through.

That being said I really do love Maiden, just wish their albums had a bit more range.

I love Maiden and only really got exposed to them maybe half a dozen years ago. My favorite band now for sure. I went to the Book of Souls tour a couple years ago and will be going to the Legacy of the Beast Tour when they swing by my neck of the woods in 2 months. I'm very excited as I pretty much love all the songs on their set list.

Bruce is a madman, to have that much energy(all of them really) being over 60 years old and having battled throat cancer. Love him.

Yeah it was pretty cool to look back on. I seems like a life time ago (because it was essentially - 80-90s were so different than today).

but I'll be honest I'd trade it to get back some of my youth - in regards to health and physical abilities (what athleticism I had as well as recovery).

I became a huge Maiden fan in 8th grade. The next year, they reunited with Bruce and released the awesome, Brave new world album.

Rock n Rio was one of the first DVDs I ever bought

I grew up as a massive metal fan but somehow I just never got into Iron Maiden back in the day. I always heard about their influence on my favorite bands but whenever I would hear one of their songs it was always one of the gay ones like Run To The Hills. I had a friend who had the X-Factor album and it was terrible. So I just never got into them, while I was a HUGE fan of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest(both were WAY before my time but I always loved the classics).

This all changed 2 or 3 years ago I finally gave their discography a listen. I heard Hallowed Be Thy Name for the first time and was completely fucking blown away. This is the greatest fucking heavy metal song ever written in human history. I'm being totally serious, it is the most perfect heavy metal song I've ever heard. Also fell in love with Peace Of Mind album and Caught Somewhere In Time, both have become two of my favorite albums. Powerslave and Seventh Son are great too. They had a great run of albums in the 80's, probably the best run of albums in that decade honestly. Absolutely fell head over heels in love with those dueling guitars and some of the best bass I've ever heard in metal. Wish I had found out about their good stuff back in the day when I was in my prime metal years, it would have changed everything.

Welcome to the club!

Iron Maiden is the only band that can write songs about

The loneliness of the long distance runner
Deja vu
Alexander the Great

and sound awesome. They are all in the somewhere in time album.

Alexander the Great, btw, is my favorite Iron Maiden song.

I had Holy Smoke playing on repeat while watching live footage of Norte Dame burning;)

Same here - the first Maiden concert I went to was the World Slavery tour (WASP opened for them here in Houston at the old Summit) and then saw them on the Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son tours. Great band live and in the studio - and still one of my favorites.

Getting this beautie in the mail very soon.....

Top 3 band of all time for me. I have never seen a better band live. Even now. As a runner back in the day, I spent many miles on the road running to their stuff. If I go to a bar now I'll drop a 20 in the juke and put on Wasted Years, Run to The Hills, Aces High, Fear of The Dark, Seventh Son, 666, Where Eagles Dare, Wrathchild, 2 Minutes, Paschendale, Iron Maiden, Blood Brothers, Tailgunner, The Trooper.....Ill blow the fucking roof off and RAISE THE IRONS!!!!
