JURASSIC WORLD v.2 (Dragonlord's Review)

Nothing new. It was fun at times, but story was a total rehash, the characters weren't anything special, the dialogue silly. They should have went full blown with genetic disaster theme, at least that would be new. the sea creature was cool, but the I rex was underwhelming.

Saw it Saturday, and surprised how full the theater was for what was basically a noon showing. Overall, I thought it was good. Felt a bit rushed at the beginning, but the movie was 2 hrs+ anyways. Nothing really to nitpick at other that BDH's fucked up wardrobe.

Finally managed to watch it last night... it was decent. Better than JP3, for sure, but too juvenile. It completely lacks the light horror elements of the first two, and the first half of the movie is a complete drag with useless personal drama for characters no one gives a shit about.

My biggest gripe with it however was the t-rex just going like "my work here is done" and taking a hike. WTF was up with that...

I LOVED the indomitus rex though. Really cool.

By the way, reading several blog posts, threads and watching recent videos on JW lately, I'm surprised to learn so many people didn't enjoy The Lost World. It's right up there with the original for me. Malcolm's daughter and girlfriend were awful but the movie was so much more than that...

Yeah I was expecting the T-rex and raptor to high five each other at that moment.

JURASSIC WORLD Sets Record for Fastest Race to $1 Billion

Jurassic World truly is the Indominus Rex of the box office. After snatching the U.S. opening box office crown away from The Avengers last weekend, Jurassic World has just beat fellow Universal sequel Furious 7 to become the fastest film to ever hit the $1 billion mark. More details about the Jurassic World billion dollar box office take after the jump.

Universal Pictures announced today that Jurassic World has crossed $1 billion at the box office in just 13 days. The dino adventure is now the 22nd film ever to join the billion-dollar club, and the third this year after Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. In addition, Jurassic World now holds the title for highest-grossing second week at the U.S. box office.

Furious 7 set the previous record for reaching $1 billion, 17 days, this past April. Before that, Avatar set the record in 2009 by climbing to $1 billion in 19 days. Avatar‘s record was later tied by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011) and The Avengers (2012).

It was never in doubt that Jurassic World would do well at the box office, but its performance has surpassed even the most optimistic predictions. That was true in its first weekend, and it was true in its second. On Sunday Universal estimated a $102 million take for Jurassic World‘s second weekend, but actual numbers showed the film pulled in $106.6 million.

Because going by his reasoning he shouldn't enjoy any film. If everyone made perfect decisions then there would never be any problem. Who the hell watches a movie like that? Not to mention that all prior installments had people making bad choices. If he is going to bash this film then he's basically saying all the other films were crap as well.
I agree, the whole point of these films is that mistakes, both people related and otherwise, will eventually get in the way of such an undertaking. The people have to make bad decisions for the wrong reasons(economic incentive for instance) otherwise there would be no issue.

What do you mean? I get her running in heels throughout the movie but she was meeting with investors. If there's any reason to look your Sunday best its that.

I rewatched all three films in anticipation for this one and I agree. As a kid of course I loved all three because dinosaurs but rewatching the 3rd one I saw why people didn't care for it. I expected to think the same of the 2nd but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought that it went in a much different direction. It was darker with a kick ass score to match. It felt more like one of those stories about 19th century colonialists in Africa than it did the first film and I mean that in a good way. The hunter character was bad ass and I like how he movie didn't portray him as an irredeemable asshole as many others movies would. I didn't even mind Dr.Harding and the girl most of the time and the movie had two T-rexes, what more can you ask for?

As good as the first film is I think The Lost World provides a better template for future films than Jurassic Park does. It could've sparked a new genre. Forget dinosaurs and monsters, that jungle setting is perfect for films in general.

^And in the first JP it was Dr. Alan Grant who hated kids going into the horrible deadly tragedy and gets him in touch with his paternal instincts of being protector and caregiver to Lex and Tim.

Jurassic World is basically a remake of the original Jurassic Park only disguised as a sequel. Dr. Grant and Claire are the same character.
Exactly what I came here to say this, fuck any "man" accusing this of being a sexist movie and fuck Joss Whedon.
The main difference is the first movie was a bit more subtle with the idea but that's an issue of writing and not sexism.
Did anyone besides me think that The Lost World was basically a retelling of King Kong? Go to unknown island, capture mythological giant creature, bring it back to civilization to exploit it, beast escapes and wreaks havoc on a city.
When you put it that way then yeah it is similar. I wish we got more movies like that.

I thought the movie was great. Love the finale fight scene.

So is JW gonna be a one hit wonder? I can't imagine a sequel having much of a compelling story line.

I think this is something they should hold off on for quite a while. You have to create a realistic reason why anyone would want to come back to this island.

I don't think the next one should be about an island at all. It should be about the dinosaurs getting loose in America or something like that. Have the military cloning dinosaurs and they get loose and make it to the city.

My favorite thing about the second one was Trex loose in the city I thought it was awesome.

finally got around to watching this movie. The kids really brought the film down no doubt. the older brother was extremely corny, would say hello to girls and then just stare at them for long periods of time. Who the heck does that? The random semi love story between owen and what's her name. You have dinosaurs lifting people into the air, killing them (your assistant was carried off and killed)and yet they have time to kiss? I could not lose myself into the movie and just didn't enjoy it.

Also after seeing that spoof trailer of the velociraptors riding motorcycles alongside owen i couldn't get that image out of my head when they went used them to track down the Indominus rex.

I really liked Owen so I'd love to see more of that character but I agree. I don't see what they could do any more of at this point. The movie loses it's magic when you take it out of the park. Raptors and T-rex's running around somewhere else is just a dinosaur movie and not Jurassic Park.

Yea had the kissing scene was stupid I didn't like that either. I didn't think the romance was random though they made it clear that they had a thing for each other the minute they got together and they indicated that they had a date at one point.

The kid thing wasn't weird at all. He doesn't say hello and stare. He just stares at hot girls I've seen plenty of people do that. Especially kids who are shy.

My main complaints with this movie.

1. You install small devices in all dinosaurs but after the last one there would be no way those devices wouldn't have some sort of poison/explosive installed. They could have just made the smart trex immune to the poison or something like that.

2. The kids being told to go back and still driving into a gate that says danger stay out. I could understand the small kid doing that but the older one? To dumb.

I think those were my only complaints. Overall the movie was ok but honestly I think I enjoyed the last three movies more. This one just involved to much time showing us the new jurassic world and I wasn't interested in seeing that. The last two movies jumped into the action fairly quickly. I also liked

I thought the movie was fucking awesome. It's a fucking movie about dinosaurs, I got exactly what I wanted. You idiots complaining about dialogue and shitty acting must be subconsciously depressed or something. Were you expecting academy award winning type stuff? It was a fun popcorn flick and nothing more, and a great fun popcorn flick it was.

Doctor Wu got off the island with the embryos, the sequel will have something to do with that I'm sure

Watched the Lost World the first time the other night for the first time since I was a kid, and it was a lot better than I remember.
