JURASSIC WORLD v.2 (Dragonlord's Review)

Why don't you take his opinion of the movie as just his opinion of the movie instead of acting so offended about what he has to say?

Because going by his reasoning he shouldn't enjoy any film. If everyone made perfect decisions then there would never be any problem. Who the hell watches a movie like that? Not to mention that all prior installments had people making bad choices. If he is going to bash this film then he's basically saying all the other films were crap as well.

Should have added Godzilla to that list, another film that was rated higher. Yet the majority consider it a boring film outside sherdog. Just noticing a pattern here

I'm surprised with the amount of hate as well. I thought at the very least that this film would have received better feedback than Age of Ultron which I found incredibly disappointing mainly due to Ultron being a complete can.

I'm going to say something that will probably have a lot of people shaking their heads but let me say it anyway. I've noticed that the ratings from the majority of posters tend to follow whatever DragonLord has originally rated a film. I believe its in part because DragonLord always sees films before anyone else does. So when these guys go out and watch a movie they already have some kind of expectation set for themselves according to what DragonLord has in the review.

Dredd and Kingsman were both loved by most posters on this site. DragonLord also gave them very high reviews. In real life, everyone I've talked to considered these two films average.

Jurassic World has made a ton of money and most people really enjoy the film. On Sherdog the film gets a 6.5 and then lots of people are giving it 5,6,7.

There are tons of other examples out there. But these were the films that came to my mind first.

Twelve people gave it a 5, the same amount that gave it a 10.

About 45% gave it an 8, 9, or 10. I'm actually surprised at the love it's getting here.

Godzilla's scores and reviews were pretty mixed.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that these are poor examples.

I've thought about Sherdog's collective movie taste before. It's heavily skewed because it's a forum of guys.

I gave it a 4.

I found myself completely unable to step outside the realm of reality in a movie about dinosaurs and that's saying something. The people in this movie are complete morons. Dinosaurs have attacked and killed people THREE times in this universe and still these have no idea what to do in case shit went wrong. One kid even pulled out a manual in a time of crisis. I had more fun nitpicking this movie than watching it. Chris Pratt is the only thing keeping this movie from being some ole bullshit.

The movie ignores the two sequels. And since you're in the nitpicking mood, the third movie was actually a rescue attempt on an island inhabited by dinosaurs so there really wasn't much of a lesson in dino park management to be learned.

I thought it was an 8. Yes, it is cheesy in some parts, but it's produced by Spielberg. It's a requirement to have a certain level of schmaltz when he's involved, and the main characters are basically untouchable despite the harrowing situations involved ... It's Hollywood. Enjoy the ride! I was very entertained.

The current averages for Jurassic World:
Rotten Tomatoes Critic: 6.7/10, 71% fresh
Rotten Tomatoes User: 8.2/10, 84% liked it
Metacritic: 59/100
Metacrtitic User: 7.1/10
IMDb: 7.5/10

That's an average of 7.08/10 for those five. The Sherdog average as of this posting: 7.08/10. The exact same score down to the hundredths.

Want me to do more films and see if there's actually anything behind this? Because this one sample point isn't supporting your hypothesis.

EDIT: To hell with it. I'm curious now. Off to gather data!

Yeah, let's all go to the cinema to watch a movie where the dinosaurs are completely unable to get out of their cages. Sounds like a really entertaining film. Even in the first film people made dumb decisions.

Maybe next weekend you can take a visit to your local zoo and watch the big cats take a nap. That sounds more up your alley.

Seriously, if you're going to give this film a 4/10 at least come up with a better reason to justify that low score. Going by your logic, the entire franchise would score no higher than a 5. Because guess what? It's a movie and the characters make dumb decisions in all the films because thats what sets up the action sequences. Holy crap man, it's a summer blockbuster. Get your head of your ass

Calm down and quit acting like Universal is cutting you a check to defend this movie. I'm glad you can look past the massive amount of CIS and PIS because "i just came here to see big dinosaurs" keep waiting for that check

Following up after gathering some data. I looked at the numbers for the following films: Jurassic World, Avengers 2, Dredd, Kingsman, Mad Max, Godzilla, and John Wick.

The median difference between Sherdog's average and DL's review score is -0.08/10.
The median difference between Sherdog's average and the general public is +0.08/10.
The median difference between DL's review and the general public is +.37/10.

So, basically, both DL and Sherdog closely agree with general public opinion for this sample with differences generally being less than a half-point. The biggest difference was for Mad Max where DL gave it a 10/10, the public a 8.67/10, and Sherdog a 8.71/10.

Or, he just didn't like it.

I didn't enjoy Mad Max, but that's my opinion. It's not like I'm going to argue against everyone else's reasoning on why they enjoyed it since it doesn't match my own opinion.

Stop taking this so personally. We all have different tastes in life and what speaks to you doesn't necessarily speak to everyone else.

Take a breather and relax. There are more serious things in life to be concerned about.

JURASSIC WORLD No. 1 Again on 2nd Week with $102 Million

Jurassic-World-Pratt-062115-Dragonlord.jpg

Moviegoing once again prospered in North America this weekend, thanks to the one-two punch of Inside Out and Jurassic World, with domestic box office revenue up more than 66 percent over Father's Day weekend in 2014.

Many had expected Pixar's Inside Out to top out at $65 million, considering the T. Rex-like might of Universal's Jurassic World. But the race was much closer than expected as Inside Out raced to $91.1 million from 3,946 theaters — the best opening for an original Pixar title and the second best of any Pixar film behind Toy Story 3, which launched to $110.3 million and had the benefit of being part of a beloved franchise.

Inside Out also claims ownership to the top opening for any original movie, live-action or otherwise, that isn't based on sourced material, eclipsing the $77 million debut of Avatar.

Still, that wasn't enough to overtake Jurassic World, which roared to $102 million in its second weekend from 4,291 theaters, declining a narrow 51 percent and almost eclipsing The Avengers ($103 million) to score the top sophomore gross of all time. In its first 10 days, Jurassic World has earned a massive $398 million domestically.

Overseas, Jurassic World continued to crush everything in its path, grossing another $160.5 million from 66 markets and pushing its foreign title to $583.1 million for a worldwide cume of $981.3 million, including $161.7 million in China. The tentpole will be the fastest in history to hit $1 billion.

Interesting. Nice work on the data, JB.

I'd say anything $95mil and above would be a phenomenal number.

So if it's setting records for week day boxoffice it is likely next weekend will be another big one.

Well I guess there goes my theory that men skew the numbers.

Followup #2, featuring MOAR DATA!!!!1!

I looked up the info for virtually every single movie thread we've had that feature poll numbers. Of those 68 films, 37 of them have DL giving his own review (as far as I could find, there might be a handful that I missed). The average poll-to-public* difference for the ones DL rates is 0.4699/10, and 0.4145/10 for the ones he doesn't. If you apply a significance test of 99% you find there is no statistically significant difference.

This means you're wrong in your hypothesis that DL is influencing the scores by giving his reviews before most people have seen the film.

* the "general public score" is the average of the user rating from RT, Metacritic, and IMDb.
