Law Juneteenth as Federal Holiday

So no singing kumbaya and coming together for this holiday???

Shouldn't surprise anyone. There are shooters everyday. Juneteenth is no exception.

There's only two incidents listed for June 19, 2024: one in Oakland, California, and one in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

What about the one in Round Rock, Texas? CNN themselves report is as a "mass shooting". CNN even references the Gun Archive at the end of this article:

Two people were killed at the scene. 14 were injured, including six with "severe injuries" that were taken to the hospital for trauma care. Obviously those aren't injuries to a shin or whatever that victims sometimes suffer when running (often falling or colliding with something) from the chaos of the scene. And, if awaiting confirmation that at least an additional two besides the two dead were shot, not injured in some other manner, the incident isn't listed anywhere among the general shootings tracked by the body that aren't categorized as "mass shootings", either.

You aren't stating anything "to the contrary".... I listed incident rates for 2023...the last complete year tracked, so you showing 2024 to date rates doesn't invalidate my post...which is seems like you are trying to do.

There is not absolute definition of what constitutes a "mass shooting", so maybe we should retire the term, or better define it? U.S. statute defines a mass killing as having 3 or more killings in a single incident, but what if you just injure a bunch of folks and they all survive... that's not a mass shooting anymore? It's stupid.
The FBI says a mass shooting is when one or more individuals are actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. That'? how I understand it, even though if there are only 2 victims should that be considered "mass"?

Then of course, you can become as pedantic as you want, exclude gang violence, exclude familicide, exclude whatever you like, but dead via gun is dead via gun. As long as it's intentional, I think it should be added to the measure, but I ain't The Decider".

Lastly, you make a clear cut and strong case for the gun violence archive being useless as a source of information...which is sad.

What an odd position to take...that "gang violence" doesn't affect any citizen's life.
There are degrees of separation, sure, but it's not like gang violence is pin point accurate, and only happens in a mythical "Gang Town".

As for the followers of Trumplestiltskin ... yeah, they are all fucked. I think the GOP has come down with an aggressive cancer, and I don't know if the patient is going to survive.

It was ~1.7 mass shootings per day in 2023, so both of the last Juneteenths has deviated with an excess above the norm.

In particular, I think the reason all the shootings (mass shootings or otherwise) have captured attention is because so many of them have taken place at "peace gatherings" commemorating the newly minted made-up holiday. And the reason I raise the issue of a lack of consistency in the definition is because it seems the matter of recording events, and widely reporting them, matters less to media about whether or not an incident conforms to objective definitions of a mass shooting, and more about whether or not an incident conforms to details liberals find convenient towards politicizing in the name of their pet causes.

The problems we're having in the Northeast are that people just call their cousin or friend or whatever down South in states like South Carolina to buy guns legally. Then they just drive it up the coast and handed over. Thus they become illegal guns.
