Julianna Pena Is Legit

Legit awful if you ask me. They hyped her up as phenomenal wrestler and BJJ artist and she barely was able to take down GDR and on top of that got submitted by her.
Barely able to take GDR down? You make it sound like taking GDR down is easy to do. All these other chicks except for Nunes struggled and couldn't take GDR down and GDR was able to reverse position by getting the unorthodox Muay Thai clinch on them.

As soon as Pena clinched her, she took her down easily and was even able to land some shots on GDR on the ground. Amanda wasn't able to land any shots on GDR when she had top position, but Pena was landing flush on her. She's really underrated and has given all of her opponents a tough fight. In fact, I've heard some fighters say in interviews that Pena was their toughest fight.

As legit as the whole division. And you know what i mean.

One thing for sure, she is a warrior. That girl will take all the punishment imaginable before quitting. I never seen someone so ungry to get back to a beating, in between rounds.

She's pretty good for the division. If she had a bit more awareness and had avoided the guillotine then she would probably have won the fight. I'd rank her as probably the fourth best BW alongside Ladd.

Was it a one armed guillotine? Or did GDR lock it in with both arms?

LOL, I know you're joking, but comparing Romero, an Olympic medalist to Pena...
Ah shit, I didn't know an Olympic silver 2 decades ago gets you a title shot today, especially when it was in wrestling, a thing you stopped being great at in the cage a while ago. I'll go run tell Peña.

1 lost = close to a title shot.

WMMA... :p

I am a fellow WMMA hater, but:

Aldo, Yoel, DC, and Holloway all just very recently got title shots off of losses recently.

Cody was granted a shot after going 1-3 with 3 KTFO losses

I see people calling Pena overrated because she lost to GDR, but it's GDR! The number one ranked fighter who gave WMMA GOAT Amanda Nunes hell and made her look beatable.
Plus, you shouldn't be shocked that she subbed Julianna because she nearly subbed Nunes too. She's clearly not just a kickboxer anymore.

Pena's loss before that was to another WMMA GOAT Valentine Shevchenko. A fight she was winning until she underestimated Val's ground game and subsequently got subbed and she was also winning against GDR too.
I think Pena is the only fighter aside from Nunes who gave GDR and Valentina their toughest fights.

Her striking has improved in leaps and bounds, too. I'm shocked she was able to stand with GDR and parry her punches. Her striking defense has always been very good; she's not a slow moving plodder like Aspen Ladd which is why GDR wasn't able to KO her and she even rocked GDR a few times!
She did get hit a few times but she ate those punches and GDR is the hardest hitter in the division.

Also, the fact that Pena was able to take GDR down easily when she got a hold of her should show you how elite her grappling is because Amanda's the only other fighter in the UFC who could take GDR down.

Julianna is legit and deserves respect. She's only lost to two elite fighters in the UFC in very close fights and she was winning those fights but just made a mistake that cost her.
Nonetheless, she is an exciting fighter who always comes to fight and looks for the finish and although she lost this one, I think she's very close to a title shot.

I tend to agree -- Pena has been a dark horse for a while due to her inactivity/pregnancy, but she's right there at the top imo

Yeah only lost to top fighters of the division and actually brought a fight against them.
Just hope she can be little more active now.

If she spent more time in the gym, yeah maybe. She didn't look athletic enough at all to compete against the tops of the division. Even her good points against GDR were just meh.
I noticed that too. Peña's body has (no surprise i guess) changed since before she had the kid. She's just not as fast or athletic at all it seems to me, and it looked like she just hadn't dedicated herself 100% to an extended training regimen for this fight. I've always been a supporter of Julianna but I think she is definitely tailing off at this point.
Needs to fight more often if she wants to be a force again at 135lbs and MAYBE even it might be an idea for hre to consider slimming down to try to make it at 125lbs.

I‘m a fan of Pena, but this loss was a bad one...

I expected her to just go in there and just wrestlefuck De Randamie into oblivion. Instead she was submitted by a fighter who has been regarded as a one-dimensional striker.

Pena has shown that she can take down anybody and everybody she fights, which would be enough against the majority of the division, but Shevchenko and now De Randamie have shown that there are exploitable holes in her grappling.

I bever thought much about it but she is fairly legit. She comes to fight and has shown improvement over the years since TUF. Her maternity leave set her back some but if she stays the course and continues to put in the work it will not be problem for her to eventually get a title shot.

She stopped that bartender via groin strikes. All things considered, probably her best win.
Yeah she should have been sneaky & kicked GDR there instead of going for a telegraphed shot.

She's alright

Solid for wmma, which means I watch like every fifth fight of her.
P4p one of the worst characters in wmma though. A feminazi on steroids. Like literally

Would be beautiful without the roid jaw
