Judo techniques: Why don't they beat wrestlers?

Yeah.... Its not like he just did Judo. He is a Grand Master in Sambo for crying out loud. Every one cross trains but hes known for both, but if anything his Sambo.

Here's a story sohei. Former co-worker was telling me about his sons hi skool wrestling practice and told me of a Russian judo guy at their club who won the Canadians here in wrestling. About a year later I ran into the 'Russian judo guy' and found out he only did wrestling in Russia. I worked a few things with this kid (he was 170 lbs) and I think his 'judo' was better than mine. None of my former wrestling buddies knew kuzushi. It's just like in the movies baby. (or youtube vids)lol

Controlling is pretty different in MMA where your opponent will play guard, than on wrestling when you control his back with no hooks (because he would just turn over and "pin"you) and are looking to just hold him there riding points.

back control with two hooks in is a common folkstyle wrestling position (double grapevines or two legs in) and even somewhat common in freestyle.

lol at the thought of someone getting a defensive pin on someone with good leg rides or a good crab ride (back control with two legs under theirs and not over).. good luck with that

i didnt know defeating leg rides and crab rides was as simple as 'turning over' and pinning the man on top!

also you can get only 1 riding point even if you hold a guy down the entire match.. and this is only true in college, there are no riding points in high school wrestling

sure, take off the soft mat and replace it by concrete or at least hard sand and throws will gain more weight, but as it is, a high amplitude throw rarely generates enough power to do enough damage that will be worth sacrificing control.

Soft mat? its canvas like boxing, you can totally knock a motherfucker out on canvas with a throw.

Do a seatbelt in wrestling and the guy just turns around and you are pinned, stop being disingenous.

Depends on your skillset, a wrestler is not in his natural enviroment when inside someones guard, his skill is not necesarily better than that of a freestyle wrestler and lower than that of a judoka or samboist of the bat.

Stop acting like somehow you can teach a wrestler in 2 months to fight and win at the best of MMA, wrestler that succeed are because they took the striking and groundwork to a high level, not only wrestling.

In fact pure wrestler tend to suck as seen in PRIDE.

The Maynard-Diaz fight also had a nice example for judo in MMA and the problem with the big throws (Diaz did a Harai-Toshi with a Seoi-Nage grip, or at least thats the way I would explain it. Diaz caught Maynard with a throw (would have been a nice ippon, no doubt, even with the 2014 ruleset), Maynard rolled a little bit with it and had the same position that he had before.
On the other hand, if Diaz would have had control over the head or maybe even his hand around Maynards hip, he would have been able to control him, I am pretty sure of that.
The way Diaz grabbed the arm of Maynard you could hope for a broken rib if he lands in the wrong way. Yeah, sounds harsh, but you won

you can have back control with two hooks in with a seatbelt grip in wrestling..

i have no idea why you think its so easy to instantaneously pin someone if they are riding you like a backpack.. you realize hed have to put both your shoulder blades flat on your back and demonstrate some measure of control?

refs dont call defensive pins instantaneously in 99% of cases.

do you know how hard it is to hold someone flat on their back when they have a totally dominant position on you like backmount? the person with back mount just has to hip down to one side a little and they will never get pinned

Yeah, but only about 10 % of what makes sambo awesome and effective is still allowed in judo.
