What about being put in prison for non-violent offenses like money laundering or tax evasion? This applies to a broader category than the OP. But not every convict is a piece of shit. Again there were 1m people in state prison. 4,500 trans. 15 trans in their preferred gender. Those 15 are likely pretty screened. The other 4,485 didn’t make the cut. You can’t just say “I’m a woman” and end up in woman’s prison.

The protective custody wing is almost exclusively based on the crime they committed or the profile of the convict and usually means solitary confinement.

You really think knowing that after 1 rape you can move to protective / solitary is comforting?
