Jones vs Rampage looked nothing like how I remembered it

Everyone replays the eye poke gif, so hard for me to forget how Jones won. However it was more than eyepokes. Jones had everything and the kitchen sink to keep Rampage at bay. During the time people didn't care about eyepokes as much as the oblique kicks were talked about why Rampage couldn't do anything. Rampage in his career wasn't good at closing distance and Jones exploited that.

Beasts have eyes to be poked as well. Hard to land on someone when you are a plodding heavy hitter and the other guy has so much reach on you and keeps poking you fucking face while not engaging.

I forgot about that LOL! Funny as hell! Anyway, all I remember from the actual fight was a ton of eye pokes and kicks to the knees, all from Jones. I was confused because before this fight, I had never imagined that someone would eye poke as a strategy.

Even with Rampage's head movement, the fingertips are constantly tracking his eyes like heat-seeking missiles haha.

This is the correct summary.

The fight was Rampage trying to box, Jones being evasive and chopping at Rampage's leg and doing cheap shit till he was immobile. I also remember Rampage having zero ground game and Jones having superior wrestling, but I'd have to rewatch to see how significant that was.

Rampage was just too one-dimensional for the Jones era.

Yeah, this is what I mostly remember. Rampage couldn't get into range cause Jones was constantly tracking his eyes with his finger tips and closing distance was risking getting poked in the eyes.

Then you remember something that didn't happen, because there were no eye pokes in the fight unless you count hellbows-to-sockets. Jones did come within a few inches a couple of times with fingers extended, but Rampage actually spent more time in the fight with the lead arm out and fingers extended - he was aggressively blocking from that position for the first six or seven minutes of the fight.
