The interim belt is with Tom, he doesn't need anything else besides that. Tom could even be a fat pig in the bar, but Jones is forced to face him or give up the belt.

Stipe was ranked #2 after #1 Gane and regarded as the best HW ever

There was no one else for him to fight.

Jones was going to call out an unranked fighters who got washed by Curtis Blaydes after becoming champ?

Was Stipe seriously still ranked LMAO? Not saying you're wrong...but what a joke. Even if we're talking about when the fight was first agreed to and not when it actually happened...it was like 3 years after Ngannou had smoked him in his last fight (or close to 3 years). How the hell did they justify him being in the rankings AT ALL, let alone 2nd? Apparently actually fighting doesn't factor into the rankings. Who knew?

I'm being serious. Your point has some validity because when Jones vs Stipe was first agrees to, Tom wasn't in the spot he is now and there wasn't a great case for Jones to fight him. But when you add in idiocy like that LOL...it's like you're Z

Jones not fighting Tom means Tom gets to be a champ without a big asterisk on his name and a humiliating Jones defeat. The UFC is protecting thst boys future.
