Wrong. Aspinall is pretty much recognized by everyone as the clear "other guy" at HW in the UFC right now. If you ask anyone who follows the sport at all (and isn't a complete moron or utterly biased) who the best HW in the world is right now you'll get one of 3 answers. Jones, Aspinall, Ngannou. And with Ngannou gone, like I said Tom is clearly the other UFC HW that's completely separated himself from the pack.

Itf Jones chooses to fight him, it's actually almost a no-risk situation for Jon in terms of legacy. If he wins, it's yet another elite guy he's beaten and he'd be doing at HW. If he loses, he's 38 and fighting a weight class up from the one he truly dominated for most of his career. It wouldn't hurt his GOAT status, it's just one loss to a younger natural HW at the twilight of Jon's career. Tons of upside taking the fight with little downside.

If he does not want to fight the interim champion, fine no one is forcing him to. Just relinquish the belt. Aspinall is the interim champion who has a right to a title shot to unify the belt. Jones has no right whatsoever to hijack the belt as everyone including himself, has been given a chance at the belt. Gane was already exposed by Francis with no knees where he displayed ZERO ground game. That is why Jones carefully decided to fight Gane as he had the blueprint to defeat him.
