Jones is close to being the GOAT

Except he's going to fight Gustaffson again, unless the Gods intervene. And what Jones did in that fight was much more impressive than anything Fedor accomplished against Crocop. He got hurt and went to guard.

Nearly losing to a guy whose only career highlight was decisioning a washed up Shogun?

honestly look at his resume and tell me its not better then Anderson's, GSP's, or Fedor's.
And once he beats cormier and gus again he will be the undisputed GOAT. in my opinion it goes 1. Jones, 2. Anderson, 3.GSP, and 4. Fedor

I agree that he has surpassed Fedor (to be fair, a lot of fighters already have, but I dont want to upset Fedor's white knights).

But Anderson and GSP are still ahead of Jones in terms of GOAT status. Gus is to Jones in what Chael was to Silva. Jones needs to win the rematch, and I think he needs to finish Gus.

Fedor is the best fighter in the history of the sport.

fedor fans remind me of my grandpa talking about how the brown bomber joe louis would have beaten the shit out of that draft dodger muhammad ali

Nowhere near. Needs another 4-5 quality wins IMO.

I agree. He only has 9 top wins. Gsp has a lot more than that and Anderson does too. Even Fedor did. With another 5 wins without a lose, ill concede.

I think it is universally agreed that if he beats Cormier, Gus AND ANY 1 more, he is the GOAT.
The best. Ever.

Universally agreed is a a bit of a stretch. He'll beat DC ez and toss up with Gus. If he beats them both in convincing fashion and then moves up to HW and has a decent run then yes..... GOAT.

Naw, Jones doesnt need to move up to HW to be considered GOAT. GSP is considered one of the GOATs but never moved up in weight. It would be nice if Jones moved up but it isnt necessary. He just needs to keep his LHW run intact and win the rematch with Gus.

That sounds like top 5.

lol what other light heavyweights have there been for him to fight until recently?

You're better off not asking him for any intelligent rebuttals. He outed himself in his very first post if this thread.

Depends if you think GOAT discussions are arguable. The top 3 right that people argue about are Fedor, GSP and Anderson, and GSP never changed weight classes. If Jones stays in LHW and dominates he will be in the discussion with Fedor, GSP, and Anderson, he doesn't need to move up. I think he already has surpassed Fedor, but not GSP or Anderson.

Jones doesn't need to move up to become the GOAT I'd agree but not doing so will make it harder and you can't overlook the size differences between him and Machida/Shogun/Rashad.

Added to that as well I think the MMA scene over the last few years has been very different to the early/mid 00's. Back then you really didn't have many/any legends on the decline, yes you had guys like Coleman etc but nobody was holding them up as giant wins at the time. So when your just listing names guys with most of there achievement in recent years will tend to look better but if you look at the form of some of those names not so much.

If he beats Cormier convincingly I'll be more open to the idea.

Aldo is way ahead of Jones at this point in reality.

14-0 in the WEC/UFC

24-1 overall.

14 KO's (3 clean KO's to Jones Zero)

2 submissions

8 decisions.
