Jones is close to being the GOAT

I'm no Jones lover by any means, but his record speaks for itself.
Before Jones there were very good LHWs, some of them great, then there was Jones.

However, Jones is a BIG LHW, and before he is considered GOAT, surely he needs to do something akin to Anderson dominating EVERYONE in his division AND moving up to fight bigger fighters, or maybe Fedor who fought anyone and everyone at one point, regardless of size (OK, some of his bigger dominances were not the best of quality, overall).

IMHO, GSP's resumue is cheapened by the fact that for a long time he resorted to one fighting style to get his wins, whereas Fedor and Silva were dominant in dynamic ways.

Jones is very dynamic too, perhaps more so than Silva and Fedor, but see above for reasons his is not yet as legitimate as a GOAT as these two.
Having said that, Jones is also fighting a more modern MMA athlete than either Fedor or Silva.

Having said all that, I really hope Cormier carries on with his dominance and crushes Jones!

Ok, not everyone gets a chance to avenge their losses. But "avenging" a loss in your mind completely erases it? I don't agree.

No, but the fact that GSP has more top 10 makes his resume more impressive than Jones'.

Yes their are the "Greats" and their are several "Legends" , other guys have been labeled as "GOAT" but right now, Jon is the "one" the GOAT, Greatest of All Time, he's too flashy, he can be conservative at will, pick his opponents apart, annihilate his opponents with heavy intense shots, he chokes out legends and karate black belts bjj black belts, etc etc,

It just dawned on me that Jones was only 24 lol. 8 years younger than Anderson was when he stepped on the scene. That's crazy.

GSP beat:

Hughes twice
BJ twice
Sherk
Fitch
Diaz
Shields
Condit
Alves
Mayhem
Trigg
Koscheck twice
Karo

Jones has nothing on that. 80% of Jones' wins are past prime fighters.

That's retarded...DC hasn't proven any kind of status that would spark Jones up like that.

He's undefeated was the strikeforce HW champion prior to going to the UFC and is a elite olympic wrestler if you believe otherwise that's fine, but if Bones beats DC it will make his resume look much better especially if Bones finishes him. Daniel is highly respected in the Olympic/college wrestling world Bones beating him will speak volumes.

You can't be the GOAT if youre bigger than everyone you fight.

jones has beaten better competition, no doubt. evans, shogun, machida, gus, belfort, rampage, glover > serra, hughes, penn, shields, hardy, alves, diaz

Don't forget Fitch.

Fitch was on what, a 16 fight win streak when Georges beat him?

Shields was on a 14 fight win streak...

Rampage had what, 2 unspectacular decision wins to earn that shot?

Machida was 1-2 in his last 3 going into the Jones fight

Georges had these gnarly contenders with lots of momentum popping up it seemed whereas Jones was almost like the last guy to arrive at the battlefield that is LHW and be the only unwounded guy.

Glover was on a hell of a tear though.

DC hasn't beat anyone impressive enough to warrant being an impressive win himself....

he wasn't finished twice in the first round tho

Shogun was for a time considered by some to be ONE of the GOATs when he came to the UFC and now people only talk about him in conversations about epic beatdowns, Jones isn't the GOAT until he gets near to the end of his career or retires with a great legacy, a lot can go wrong between now and then.

I don't care what people say about Fedor and his opponents, the guy destroyed what he was given and did it for years and years. There's a reason so many fighters say Fedor is the greatest. I personally think Anderson is the GOAT but Fedor and GSP are both up there.

Fedor didn't make a habit of attacking retinas. And he dismantled a host of legendary heavyweights, most of whom were larger than him.

Check the av.

So as an undersized Heavyweight, having beaten some huge and impressive Heavyweights, it's not an impressive resume?
I will agree that Bigfoot Silva is nowhere near the fighter that the UFC wants you to think he is, but still, throwing Josh Barnett around, dominating Frank Mir, and doing the same to Roy Nelson is impressive for a fighter who has now cut to significantly less than all of these guys weigh.
All of whom outweighed him by what, 30+lbs?

Answer me this...

If Cormier beats Jones, and were to go back up to HW, would you see him losing against any of these guys?
How would you see Jones doing against them, out of interest, compared to how Cormier did?
