Jones Gane physique comparison

He pinned Romero

But honestly it goes both ways, ATG Buvasair got upset by chad American brick shit house the one time he didn't claim a gold medal. Brandon Slay lived up to his name, a Karelin level upset that doesn't get talked about enough.

Gane looks ballooned up. There are a lot of guys like that who have big muscles but are not very strong. Jon is like the opposite, he's one of these strong dense types that don't look like much but are strong as fuck.

I don't understand this obsession with Jon's physique, no one does that with other fighters, like Gaethje for example, who looks like a regular dude, and comparing to Barboza or Kevin Lee

look at jones' arms and legs they are not big and strong by any metrics

Well he benches 315lbs at the very least and he can squat 500ish... How are his arms and legs not strong by that metrics? lol

he benched 315, natty lifter in local gyms can do 3 plates like that, not saying it's not impressive by planet fitness standard. but for a ufc professional fighter who do this for a living this isn't something to brag home about

He has an 84 inch wingspan. It is most certainly impressive to be putting up 315lbs for 5 reps.

Jon lifting 315lbs is more impressive than the 5'9 bro in the gym doing it.

I'll just edit this to add to the fact these natty lifters in the gym couldn't deadlift as much as he could, as well as run 5km as quick as he could, and then ski erg as much as Jon can, and then go back for a run.

In almost every sport in the world - strength isn't the end all be all. The most important attribute is power output on a consistent basis. This is what makes a high level athlete. Jon is in the top 0.1% in that.

I'm not a fan at all for the record - hoping Gane sparks him - but acting like his physique/strength/endurance aren't impressive at his size is stupid.

Remember this picture from when he was focused too much on bodybuilding between fights?

35 aint 28? Some photoshop touchups?

So fat slob Jones is supposed to take over the HW division? Really?

Depends on the sport tbh.

Endurance sport such as fighting - you're never going to do well being big and bulky.

All that oxygen needed to pump the muscles you have being 260lbs lean, and you gas quick as hell.

Werdum, Cain, DC, etc. There is a reason these guys look the way they do. Mass/fat is weight without the need to fuel it with oxygen. If you can carry it on your frame, and make the other guy wear it, it can be far more beneficial than pumped up muscles.

I mean look at Ngannou, shredded 260 lbs guy and he always gasses out by the end of the second round. It is basic rule of your body, it won't bode well when you need to sustain that kind of muscle mass in a sport which is based around of endurance, no matter how much fast KOs you have... Francis has seen it more than once in his career and he kills dudes very fast. And he was still a victim of it, even in fights he won in the end.

counterpoint
Overeem, Cro Cop, Ngannou, Gane, JDS, Lesnar

it really depend on the person

DC had to be pushing 230lb when Jon took him for a sky ride and slammed him

I don't recall that happening, in fact I recall only the opposite happening. Jones took DC down a few times but it was mostly against-the-fence pulling his legs out from under him. DC's takedown of Jones was a "sky-ride" though

We'll see about that. Jones may be more technical but I doubt he'll be stronger. He's going to be dealing with a true A-level HW athlete. Jones wasn't stronger than a lot of the fighters he fought at LHW, he was just more technical. You can tell by the pics Gane is noticeable bigger and more filled in muscular wise compared to Jones being soft and having a lot more fat than muscle. This is also the biggest fighter Jones has ever fought. There are no examples of Jones fighting anyone bigger than him to draw from. So it's a big question mark on how he will be able to perform without a size advantage.

Jones can win but I don't think he will be physically stronger than Gane. Jones trying to outmuscle Gane for 5 rounds - I don't think that's the best strategy.

Jones' lengthier than Gane though. Pretty sure DC was functionally stronger than Gane as well.
