Wow, so Jones said he was afraid to fight Cormier at HW initially and waited for him and Francis to retire and leave UFC before calling out a washed up 40 year old who hasn't fought in over 2 years, also a part time fire fighter... Cormier already softened Miocic up, and Francis already ko'd him pretty good. This should be an interesting fight though, what kind of shape Miocic comes in and how this 2 years went, he is certainly out of his prime.

I agree that Stipe isn't the best fight to make, given that he is 40 and on a layoff and you have dangerous guys like Pav. But Jones is also getting old, and has given a lot for the sport, beating all the killers and legends at LHW, 16 title fights etc. If anyone deserves an "easy money fight" its him.

Jones bless

Yeah, you're right.. let's just declare jones never existed or lost all his fights and let that be the end of that..

Stipe fans are even starting to accept that Stipe is too old to take on the GOAT. With the ease Jon does it, you'll all realise that even prime Stipe had nothing for Bones.

I agree. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Jon get his ass whipped. Generally im not a fan of the “feed the old to the young” style of matchmaking. For some reason, im making an exception for this one.

We don't know if Stipe is washed though. He got KO'd by Ngannou which can happen to anybody. Before that he beat Cormier 2x.

And before he got KO'd he was the only man to ever stun Ngannou. He definitely overreacted to it and thought he'd hurt Ngannou more than he actually had which led to Ngannou countering and KOing him, but the power and accuracy was clearly still there. If not more as he hadn't done that in the first fight.

And it goes without saying but the difference in the rematch was really Ngannou's improvements and not necessarily whether Stipe had regressed. His accuracy and wrestling had all clearly improved and just complimented his existing power.

Do I expect Stipe to be who he used to be now that another 2 years have passed? No, of course not as the likelihood of that is low. But we don't know if he actually has gone downhill. We'll only know that if he fights again.

And obviously yes, Sergei deserves the shot more than Stipe does. But that's another topic.

Imo stipe will look terrible in this fight. He’s been declining for years, he’s just concealed it well by barely fighting.

Jones will take him down and finish him in the first round. In fact, the result could help continue to conceal how declined stipe is lol

Once again, we're back at denying Jones' GOATness by simply pretending his opponents suck instead of him being so great.

Who else should he fight? There aren't that many HW contenders if we are being honest.

Stop looking at it from hardcore fan stand point. Avg. fan hold Stipe much much much higher than any other current HW besides Jones. Hell, most of them probably don't even know Jones is the HW champ.

Portland8242 above said it perfectly...........
Biggest name. Biggest fight. Biggest paycheck. Just so happens to be washed up and an easy fight.

Jon would be an idiot to fight anyone else.
