Jon Jones has two records that will never be broken.

There will eventually probably come along a better fighter than Jones. Khabib was undefeated as well, never got hurt, and only lost one round his whole career. So there will be more dominant fighters than Jon.

But no one in modern MMA can ever beat his two record:

1.) Youngest champ.

2.) 15 title fight wins.

Jon came at the perfect time. The UFC was relatively young, divisions were thing and the roster was about 1/4 it’s current size. The days where you get a title shot in your 3rd fight (unless you’re a champ from another big promotion) are gone.

Even undefeated fighters usually need to be 7-0 in the UFC to get a title fight. That 7 wins might take 5 years because if they are great, they deal with horrific ducking (see Umar currently begging for a fight from any BW on the roster and getting nothing lol) and just deal with the regular inactivity that has become normal.

So even if a greater fighter than Jones comes along, there just isn’t the chance to win 15 title fights anymore. There’s not enough time. Most deep divisions can’t even get champs under age 30 now, much less a 23 year old.

TLDR: Jones will always have the GOAT statistics, similarly to old school baseball pitchers with like 500 career wins, because he came along at the perfect time in the sport.
To have these 2 records come from the same individual is even more incredible.

Yup one by R.Kelly and one by James brown.

No one will break them.

As i've already said, we don't know how many fighters chose the UFC premium brand in the LW division instead of the WEC discount brand.

UFC was quickly a far more popular brand than WEC and attracted all the views.

Do you see people speaking about WEC today in this forum ? Nobody cares, while they constantly speak about the former japanese league.
Uhhh yeah we do. If LWs had the potential to be a FW champion, they dropped down. What kind of LWs could sit around being run of the mill contenders instead of dropping down for a title fight? What?

And yes, WEC is near universally remembered fondly.

Again, name some of these mythical fighters who could have beaten Jose but didn't drop down. You can't.
Aldo wasn't a champion anymore at that time.

Also, Volka entered in the UFC as a LW and no one knows if would have been ready to go in the discount brand (WEC) if he had to.
Are you a new fan? Aldo was still champ when Pettis dropped down. That's what Max beat him for, the interim FW belt while Aldo had the actual title.

And sure, no one knows WEC fighters. As we all know, casuals have never heard of Aldo, Cerrone, Bendo, Faber, etc.

Going to a lighter division is far less prestigious, hence why only the washed out LWs tried : Volka fought Makhachev as the FW champion. Do you see the difference ?

The problem with WEC is that it was a discount brand against the UFC, so a path like McGregor was probably unlikely : starting as a FW and then going to the LW division.

Once again, nobody cared about WEC.

He lost against McGregor, the true champion.

He won the interim title that was later promoted to undisputed.

McGregor vacated the title.
