Jon Jones explains himself

So he's pretty much where GSP was at when he took the Bisping fight.

And he's not really wrong. He has money, and has doesn't really have anything to prove.

Staying too long means you start losing, so he is basically saying if he would fight Aspinall he would lose.

One of the most blatant ducks ever.

There is no need for explanation it's pretty obvious his reasoning to fight Stipe and than subsequently retire. It's part of the plan.

Not narcissistic at all Mr third person.

Btw, beating an old Stipe that's lost by KO last time out means Jack shit. He's also apparently extremely obsessed with the goat narrative, meanwhile all he is is a known cheat.
Jones was probably having a bad day. His delivery truck broke down and he had to walk 1600 miles to deliver homeless people food on foot

Tom is as hungry now as Jones was from 2011-2015. Jones knows this and wants no part of it. He won't admit but he knows Stipe is the safer fight that looks amazing on paper. 42 year old "HW GOAT" 🥴 Stipe who hasn't won a fight in almost 5 years.

Tom would be a much better win for Jones legacy. A young, peaking, highly skilled HW. At Jon Jones age with all his mileage I'd say a dominant win over Aspinal would be one of the most impressive title defenses in HW history.

A great win for Jons legacy but he doesn't want it because it's dangerous and doesn't look as good on paper.

He pretty much confirms he's retiring after this fight.

I hope Stipe wins, he actually sounds like he might at least give Tom a chance to become undisputed.
Tom isnt nearly as good as people are making out

Unsure why he even wants the Stipe fight. It doesn't really do anything for him. Maybe one last payday? One last hurrah?
Stipe and DC were two of the more successful HWs during his era, and Stipe had the most belt defenses in that time.

I'm unsure why someone wouldn't understand why he'd want that fight.

Because I don't think it really adds to Jon's resume at this point. Jon could retire right now with or without the Stipe fight and be considered the GOAT by many fans. Beating Stipe isn't going to elevate his resume any more than it already is. Not to me anyway.

He does though, and I can see why he'd think that given what Stipe was to the division during Jones career.

I'm with you in that I think Jones already has a resume that speaks for itself, but I totally get why he'd want Stipe. He was the closest thing to HW that Jones was to LHW in his tenure. I think that's the bulk of it.
