Jon Jones explains himself

Him avoiding the number one contender and sitting out for a year with an injury waiting for old man Stipe is just that. Him sticking around for too long.

Goat lhw, top 3 overall goat

But his HW resume isn't that great. Gane and retired Stipe maybe. Lots of current HW have a better resume at at HW
Dude got 1 win and acting like he can call his shots. No wonder why he used PEDs.

Well, at least we know he's one and done. Folks now armed with 'facts' can now decide whether they care about this fight or not.

I tend to prefer watching careers and paths to a belt more than one-off fights. So comments like this - albeit refreshingly truthful - tend to push me away more than pull me in. But we'll see.
You will watch and you know it. Stop being Billy bad ass when you are going to watch like the next man. You’re like the friend that trashes on a big girl then smashes on the low. I know your ilk

If a fighter finds themselves in that situation, they've "stuck around too long". He's holding up the division at this point.

Yes, but no..

Jon has an incredible resume. So much so that he is in an unique position.

I do wish we got to see aspinall vs Jones though.

What does he care about. Legacy. Or bodily harm, health and function for the rest of his life.

Did you hear Tenis players not wanting another match to not hurt their legacy.
So is there a goat level tenis player, undefeated other than one DQ for breaking his racquet that could potentially face a new guy, younger but few people know about him so the goat guy doesnt really want to face him cause having his name on his record doesnt really add to his legacy?? Doubt it, tenis players lose games all the time, they dont risk CTE from missing a ball either.

If they go into combat sports they have made up their minds about their health, they care but not so much to not fight because of it.

He pretty much confirms he's retiring after this fight.

I hope Stipe wins, he actually sounds like he might at least give Tom a chance to become undisputed.

Or Stipe becomes undisputed ...

He isnt that old, but i doubt he sticks around fighting lower name HW's, Aspinall vs Jones would be absolutely sick.

To be fair, Jones is in a spot where any loss hurts his legacy more than whatever Aspinall or other HW's could add, Stipe has his share of loses already, whats one more KO to him.

Ridiculous to think Jones is going to KO Stipe.

If anyone gets KO'd, it's Jones.

If Jones wins, it's by decision.

Stipe should not give him that opportunity. He should take note of what Jones said and realise it's not good for him to stick around for too long. He should not fight Jones, who only wants to beat an old shot man, brag about it, and run away.

He wants "rolator" or "wheelchair" Stipe on his resume. The man hasn't fought in 10 years.

He's holding up the division for an irrelevant fight with an old guy. If he insists on that fight he should vacate the title so the division can move on with a real champion.

Just again confirming he wanted nothing to do with Francis or Tommy now. And I don’t blame him, he’s got a hell of a resume. Has built himself a solid brand and should retire

that mofo is so fucking scared of tom, it's getting kinda funny tbh

Jones doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall not because he is scared, but because he wants to focus on more important things like donating to charity and being a great humanitarian

Translation- "No way In hell I'm fighting a big, young, hungry, athletic generational talent like Aspinall who will put me to bed inside a round. That will be horrible for my legacy I won't shut up about.

I'm taking out arthritic old man Stipe who can barely walk without his cane. Calling myself the HW GOAT, then peacing out."

I remember when Pavlovich was supposed to be that big, young, hungry, athletic generational talent. How soon we forget, huh?

And I guarantee if Jones relents and decides to stomp Aspinall instead of Stipe, for months here it would be nothing but talk about what a "gimme" fight it was and how Aspinall was "too green" and "the easiest possible matchup for Jones."

yeah he doesnt realize that tom on his resume is way better than stipe
Yeah right. If Tom (and I don't believe this) goes and never wins the real belt, it will mean nothing. And all of Sherdog will call Tom a can. It's just the way the cards are on the table right now.

May all the MMA gods atop Mt Xyience take heed of Jones and his cold calculating confidence about shaping his stage exit. May they listen, smile quietly amongst themselves...and start sharpening their hardest thunderbolt.

That's great for him but what's it do for the fans? What about what we want?

That's about how it read to me as well.
